You all want to take the easy path, and presume that a scurrilous, dishonest lobbying/bribery campaign is what got telcom amnesty through. That's an awful lot of Democrats that you are condemning!
It's not necessarily due to bribery, although in some cases it clearly is. Generally speaking, though, the Dems abandoned the rule of law for our country today because it's in their nature to do so. They have more in common with the others in the Senate (regardless which letter comes after their name) than they do with the constituents. That is the moral of today's story.
Just as we don't need a conspiracy to have sex and propagate our species, the Senate didn't need a conspiracy to abandon rule of law. Understand?
Anyway, you all ought to take a lot more careful measure of your own side on this. I have the feeling now, as Virginia primary results come in, that an issue like this is just going to energize an already-loaded Obama campaign. It may be over for Hillary, who was clearly the more electable candidate. I'd say be careful what/who you wish for, because you might just get it. But I think it's too late. You'll be campaigning this fall for The Honorable Barack Hussein Obama for President.
Nice try, Elephant. But suveys show that Obama is the more electable candidate. And after today's performance, Obama is the only meaningful non-Republican vote. Hillary is more of the same on the most important issues facing the country, and therefore it really doesn't matter if the president is her or McCain.
Yes, I know that the main thing you can say against Obama is to simply repeat his name. I used to go to school with a bunch of dumbfucks who used to make fun of my name, as the only thing they could say against me. And while that rationale will work wonders in convincing most republicans not to vote for Obama (as they are really no different from those idiots in my elementary school), it will also provide inspiration to lots and lots of people to vote. That will turn the tide in our favor, without a doubt.
High voter turnout to a republican is tantamount to the Great Unwashed storming the bastille. However, best case scenario, Obama gets in, it will only set the stage for the civil war which I predict will be in full swing within 5 years.
I am picking the U.S. Marine Corps for my side. Okay, now your pick. You want the ACLU?
Big surprise there, Elephant. You go with the brownshirts, and yes, I'll stick with the ACLU. Why? Well, because while history has plenty of examples of guns being more powerful than words demanding freedom, in the long run, words have been shown to be more powerful. From the Magna Carta through to the Civil Rights Movement in this country, history is constantly punctuated with examples of very powerful, well-armed, vested interests giving power to the masses, in observance of one well-known fact: No number of guns can indefinitely suppress the public at large. And that's what this civil war will eventually become.
You can explain all this to your grandkids. Won't they be proud??
You said that in a civil war, you would side with the Marines, and assumed that the ACLU would be on the other side. In such a pairing, it's clear which side would use violence to exert control, and which side would wage a war of ideas. So I simply expand on that idea, while shaming you for gravitating immediately to the side of oppression over freedom.
That shaming was something you couldn't refute, like most things, and so rather than try and address it, you decided to try a gotcha based on my wording. I expected no more out of you.
Here, I'll spell it out for you: within 5 years, I fully expect parts if not all of the US military to be engaged in warfare against a sizable portion of its citizens. I have already chosen my side, in favor of longstanding and progressive ideas of freedom, which I am willing to fight (but not kill) for. During this time, we will be opposed by people like you, Elephantman, who fight for power for power's sake (not actually fight, of course, but sit your fat ass in your EasyBoy and tacitly approve the slaughter of your fellow Americans), in direct contravention of everything this country was founded on. You lot are and alwyas will be known as the traitors. After the war, there will need to be a lot of forgiveness of people like you.
Because you are proven wrong on these pages each and every day, not just with a disagreeable opinion but fundamentally wrong about a whole range of facts, your view of what's going to happen in the next 5 years is about the most reliable notion of what WILL NOT happen that I think is available today.
There is going to come a time when your abysmal wrongness will be impossible to ignore even by you. That is going to usher in your own dark night of the soul. You will spend some days wondering where you went wrong, and probably end it with a gun in your mouth.
That is, if any sense of justice exists in the world. And based on the Senate's actions today, that is indeed an arguable position.
