Accurate polls

No REALLY, cincinnatus. I would love to have a very accurate poll of the people in the US. DO they want us to just stop and bail now or do they want to finsh it. I really would like to know.

No, Anonymouse, clearly you DO NOT want to know. Because, the answer to this question is right in front of you. How many polls do you have to read where a majority of Americans want troops out within a specific timeframe? With all the polls indicating that, what reason do you have to doubt them? I mean, apart from your steadfast determination not to conclude the Iraq war as a terrible mistake, a mistake that you cheered on?

Well, I don't know much about that but most of the military guys I know would rather get in there and get the job done. Basically, to fail to do that means all the people they know who died and all the sacrafices of those who made it back were for absolutely nothing. That's part of the reason. Another part is honor and pride in our service...to quit without winning is just not in our makeup.

Anonymouse, your high school civics teacher needs to be fired as a result of the comment you just made. But failing that, let me show you exactly why you're an idiot at this particular moment.

The US military is a civilian-run organization. It does not move according to the whims of the troops.

Moreover, just like you, these troops you cite are trying desperately to avoid one very painful truth: that the Iraq war was completely unnecessary, and that those who died in it died for absolutely nothing. That is a very harsh reality, and I can understand the reluctance to see it. However, don't shoot the messenger here. This is what you guys signed up for, and now that it hasn't turned out to be the bill of goods you were sold, you're busy crying about it.

Grow up. Learn some things about the nature of war. Learn some things about the bullshit spewed out by politicians, and most notably anyone who has worked for the Bush Administration. But for God's sake, learn SOMETHING so we don't have to go through this same debacle again in 30-40 years.

So yeah, I want to know if everyone just wants us to quit.

Again, while I know you're not interested in what Americans think about this issue (since they largely disagree with you), I wonder what you think about the Iraqis' point of view on this issue? Remember them? Those people we "liberated?" Because the vast majority of them want us out of their country. What's that you say? That's not the kind of liberation we gave them? Right, didn't think so.

If that's the case, then I think there are a lot of valient young men and women in the military who may just figure no one gives a damn about them anymore and will probably just quit and let someone else fight their wars.

And the world will be more peaceful as a result.

I don't mean world peace would ensue if it weren't for the US military. However, if you remove from the equation the unnecessary violence initiated by the US military (under corrupt civilian command), the world would objectively be a more peaceful place.

Of course there's always this...without anyone volunteering for an all-volunteer military, WHERE will they get any fighters for the NEXT war...and rest assured, there WILL BE a next war.

You sure hope there will be. Honestly, with all these "war is always the answer" people running around, I do despair for our future.
