One of the best shows since The Wire comes back this summer - Skins on BBC America. It's Season 3 with a whole new set of kids. I watched it online, and it's riveting.
Do you plan to rate the BBC show "Skins" which is just out on DVD? An excellent show that I think is on par with "The Wire."
I watched both of these series from the first episodes. I love both of them - but I have to say the Wire is the best TV show of all time (and I'm a Twin Peaks fan too). I realized how truly great this show was when I found myself pulling for the gay drug dealer, Omar. The characters are so well-developed and really pull you in to their story. Every season has concentrated on a different part of Baltimore - drug dealing, the docks, politics, etc. I have a feeling the last season will be the best.
I have a feeling that the series will end with Meadow dying as some sort of byproduct of Tony's business. What is Meadow doing anyway? Did she graduate from Columbia? Is she working? I thought she was going to be a doctor. She's just around now....I don't think AJ will kill Tony. I don't think he has the courage. I also think the asbestos dump will figure into the ending - perhaps by bringing him and Phil to a dramatic conclusion with Meadow getting caught up in the cross-fire. Or, Phil will cross that line and involve the nuclear family in the dispute.
I'm really going to miss this show. I've always had HBO, and I've been watching this since day 1. I also enjoy listening to the excellent, varied soundtracks.
First of all, I've wondered since the beginning if Tony's mother, Livia, was named after the scheming, vindictive wife of Caesar Augustus. With this last season, I think we are seeing Tony developing into a sociopath with no feelings like his mother. In the first episode, he purposely upset Janice with the comments about the neighbor's kid drowing in the pool. Janice compared their mother to a snake that would sit in the grass all day until the perfect opportunity to strike - no matter how long it took. I think Tony has the flaws of his mother, and they are really showing in these last few episodes.
