Impeach!

These 4 rogue justices are hellbent on destroying America from within. As such, I hope that the strong Democratic majority after the 2008 elections chooses to pursue impeachment, at the very least against Scalia. The guy uses television shows to justify his support of war crimes - he is clearly unfit for office.

Original article: Return of the gas tax

McCain has the wrong plan

You know what else might "pay for their children's school supplies this fall, or perhaps treat themselves to a nice dinner"?

Raising the minimum wage.

Original article: "Black President"

I can't believe I'm actually commenting on this

Steve Benen never would've bothered to post this.

"healing the rift"

Obama's got to pay to heal the rift that was - in part - caused by Clinton spending all that money to bash him.

He should tell her to shove it. That's leadership!

Tomato cans and Olympic athletes

A tomato can is an opponent put on the schedule in order to rack up an easy win. It is in fact old boxing lingo. Why tomato can? If you were to crush a tomato can, what would leak out? Red liquid, of course. A slightly different shade of red than you get from a crappy fighter, but you get the idea.

CBS was definitely full of hyperbole with their Olympic athlete comment; however, you'll definitely find such athletes in the top tier. World-class wrestlers and the occasional judoka will be found fighting in UFC, and the only reason we don't see more Olympians is because the most practiced art in MMA, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, isn't in the Games.

And if GSP and Anderson Silva aren't among the best athletes on the planet, I'd eat my hat.

CBS has a long way to go, especially since anyone who wants to actually get good MMA action will already be watching it on Spice or Vs.

Return to serving New York

After 2 years off, she's finally going to return to the job we pay her for. How about that?

Shows how much she cares about the citizens of New York that she'd just completely ditch the job we voted her to do. Screw her. I won't be voting for her again.

Changing their tune?

"But we must urgently realize that is 'what WILL be' if we don't..."

If you don't realize your policies of the past 8 years were an epic failure? If you don't figure out that people don't like endless war? If you don't figure out that your economic plans are a sham?

"...if we don't energize our grassroots and get to work right away."

Oh. Of course.

negotiations?

Why does Clinton deserve anything? She lost. Obama doesn't have to negotiate with her to get her out of the race - mathematics have done that.

She lost, and people (including Bill Clinton) need to accept that fact.

subtlety of written language

I understand it's hard to pick up the subtlety of written language in a medium like this, but come on. The kicking puppies thing was silly enough, but then he had to trump it by talking about raping a Girl Scout.

That is to say, I'd bet $20 tomreedtoon was joking.

I now urge the sun to come up tomorrow morning in the eastern sky

He's got a need for attention. And you're giving it to him.

Hey, here's a novel thought - how about you stop doing that?

I generally skip over anything that is reported about the right-wing hate groups, including Limbaugh and Coulter. The fact that I keep encountering them is just a sad commentary on the state of reporting, even somewhere like Salon (whose political reporting has gone waaaaaay downhill lately anyway).

I don't see reports that the KKK still hates black people, and I shouldn't have to see reports about these idiots. Please stop it.

Where does the other $0.13 go?

The author claims we'll see a decrease of 5 cents per gallon. The Federal gas tax is 18.4 cents. So I will see a decrease of about $0.65 on a tank of gas, and someone, somewhere, will pocket that extra $1.74. From everyone.

Regarding the windfall tax, if the costs to run a business increase, why WOULDN'T the oil companies increase prices? You can legislate that the price of gas must reflect the removal of the tax, but you can't possibly legislate that the price of gas must also not reflect increasing taxes on the oil companies. How would that even be possible?

If you're basing an argument on trusting the oil companies to do the right thing for the consumer, your argument is awful.

Original article: Fox News and the Democrats

didn't watch the video, but..

That seems like an eminently reasonable discussion. I would've suspected Fox would turn that into a sensationalist discussion on how the Democrats hate "real, working-class Americans."

Anyone who watched the video, can you tell me if it devolved into something like that or if it remained on the strategy points?

Monday, April 28, 2008 09:19 AM

sigh

For the past couple of weeks we've had the opportunity to read about hypocrisy and wrongdoing that were largely uncovered by anyone else in the media.

This week we're back to reading about advertisements.

Original article: Quote of the day

nothing to do with the typical experience/scenario of a woman making a choice to have an abortion...

True. It reminds me of the "Welfare Queen" myth. Does it happen? Almost certainly. Does it happen enough where that scenario should drive the discussion? Absolutely not.

But don't tell that to the right wing.

Friday, April 11, 2008 07:44 AM
Original article: Who's in charge here?

the worst sentence...

"Bush administration officials from Vice President Dick Cheney on down signed off on using harsh interrogation techniques against suspected terrorists after asking the Justice Department to endorse their legality, The Associated Press has learned."

Why can't the AP call it torture? It's torture? To frame it as "harsh interrogation techniques" makes it sound almost sympathetic. The right-wingers can go "Oh no, we shined a light in the terrorists' eyes! Why don't you cry about it, you liberal pussy!"

Of course, a good portion of people would say the same thing if the media rightly called it torture.

Steve Benen

Can you please, please, PLEASE stay on War Room permanently? The other guy, instead of reporting this, would've probably just copied a Clinton press release or showed us some vapid YouTube music video about Johm McCain and called it a day.
