Which celebrity has raised probably more money than any other?
Jerry Lewis.
Clinton is having a "bail me out of the mistakes I made" telethon. Who better to emcee than Jerry Lewis?
I laughed, anyway.
If the government is throwing billions at these companies, shouldn't it get something in return?
And if the government was running them, wouldn't they save literally hundreds of millions of dollars on lobbying and executive pay?
And without any necessity to show a growing profit to shareholders, the government could concentrate on just keeping the companies afloat, and to be honest about their accounting.
Finally, once the economy has recovered, the government would then have an asset to sell to some enterprising company or group, recouping much or all of the money invested.
How is this not the right move?
Fuck off.
Sincerely,
President Obama
PS - Honestly, did you think I was Dennis Kucinich or something? I think the President should have the power to tell private companies to break the law! What the hell did you think you were voting for? Idiots.
The war was lost the second it began. But of course in the Republican worldview, everyone's a winner and everybody gets a Congressional Medal of Freedom.
It's like Pony League, except with less skill and more death.
Isn't that like saying that aside from September 11, George W. Bush kept us safe?
What kind of idiot would say something stupid like th- oh, wait.
Carry on.
It's too bad (for you) that Obama's not a war criminal. If he were, I'd applaud your action.
Of course, if he were a war criminal you'd probably love him, like you do Bush.
"...the idea that he'd be tortured for this is [completely predictable]."
That's better.
You know, I was just thinking this morning how I'd love to have a Senator with no political experience at all, but who plans to intimidate her way to the post.
I can't see how that could possibly work out poorly.
On the one hand, anything that actually seems to be adding to the stigma of the disabled seems like a bad idea. Those guys have it hard enough.
On the other hand, as Scott Adams once said: "I think that most people have a sense of humor, but they believe that other people do not. And so it's kind of a superiority feeling, which is: 'I know that if you made fun of me, I would recognize that it's just a joke. But these poor bastard clowns, they don't know a joke when you see it. How cruel of you to take advantage of these poor dumb clowns.'"
State-sponsored torture is repugnant no matter which state is responsible for it.
If somebody raped my girlfriend, I would want to squish the guy's nuts in a vise while breaking each bone in each finger. I would want to run him through every torture device ever concocted by the most sadistic minds in the history of the world.
Fortunately, the state wouldn't allow me to do that, and rightfully so. Torture should never, ever, ever, under any circumstance be condoned, even though our basest instinct might wish it so. And so it is with this case.
An openly gay guy can't be IN the Navy, but can be their boss? How perverse. What a backward, barbaric people we are.
And @ jlamkin, what the hell led you to believe Obama was a liberal? Were you buying the Republican talking points? Obama's not a liberal, he never was a liberal, and never pretended to be a liberal. If you wanted Dennis Kucinich, you should've voted for Dennis Kucinich. If you wanted an establishment center-right politician as usual, you should've voted for Barack Obama.
Rick Warren is disagreeable by espousing the views he does. The idea that we have to give every insane and cockamamie idea time in the concept of "fairness" is antithesis to actual rational thought.
"Jon Johnson thinks flying whales shooting lasers out of their eyes are going to attack us and enslave the human race. Dr. Dudley Duncan disagrees. We'll have them debate the issue, and let you decide who's right... after this!"
Yay America.
ARE WE ALL GOING TO BE DESTROYED BY DINOSAURS RIDING ON ROCKETS?
Probably not. But the question remains.
Put me on the front page!
I've always pictured a spider-like contraption with arms stretching out to end in all kinds of different pies.
Man, I miss living in the Twin Cities. Keys Cafe made the best pies I've ever had. Their strawberry rhubarb was just the perfect mixture of sweet and tart. And their chocolate silk... oh man.
As for pie being unappreciated, just know that the following link reflects quite a lot of the web generation's feelings on the topic:

Despite the fact that Franken has legally won the election, all it takes to make Democratic "leadership" cower in fear is some stern glances from the Republicans.
Make no mistake, we all know who's in charge of the Senate, and it sure ain't Harry Reid.
It's too bad your interest peaked in 1975, because then the Reds winning "four Pennants, two World Series, and a division title in the 1970s" wouldn't seem so anomalous. There was a team in the '90s that won 3 World Series, 3 pennants, and 3 division titles. There was another team in the '90s who won 8 division titles and 5 pennants, although only 1 World Series.
With the media being run by liberal elites, you'd think the right would welcome the return of the Fairness Doctrine. It might give them an opportunity to compete in a market dominated by liberals.
You think any of them are smart enough to figure out this contradiction? You think any of them care? Or do they just figure they can keep complaining about the "liberal media" while admitting that it's a lie, and nobody will notice?
