15 years for 50% chance?
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If there is a 1 in 30 chance of winning a championship each year, and there's no relation between a team's performance from one year to the next (which is what I assume you meant by "all things being equal"), a guy would have to play 21 years to have a 50% chance for a championship. A guy playing 15 years has just under a 40% chance.

Why do they hate our troops?
[Read the article: "We are in the land of the blood feuds"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Don't they know they're just emboldening our enemy? When the inevitable attack occurs, it's going to be nobody's fault but theirs.

sadness
[Read the article: L'Engle's last wrinkle ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I wrote her a letter when I was in 6th grade - 17 years ago - telling her how much I appreciated her work. I still do.
This is profoundly sad news. She will be missed, but fortunately her work will live forever. Rest in peace.

Resource Optimization
[Read the article: Photo of the Day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This is further proof that elections are not about serving the American people. They aren't about finding ways to bring this country together for the betterment of all. They're contests of resource optimization with the goal simply to get elected.
The no-shows are well aware that resources spent on black voters are resources wasted. They feel no need to pay lip-service to reaching out to anyone but their base. It's a purely economic decision, and from an economic standpoint it's the right decision.
Race relations, and trying to do good for the underrepresented? Idealistic pipe-dreams, better served for those wussy Democrats. This is about how best to acquire power.

@Dana Runs
[Read the article: We'll take that as a "no"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"I suppose she is doing all she can. Introduce legislation that advances what the people want, knowing full well that it will never make it into law. It would never pass the senate, and if something like it did and could be reconciled with the House bill, Bush would never sign it. So it would never become law. Why? Because Democrats don't have the numbers, especially in the Senate. Hence, it's a symbolic gesture. But what would you have her do?"
What would I have her do? Well, since the House of Representatives is in charge of sending budget bills to the President, they can make sure every budget they send him is tied to the troops coming home. After every one the President vetoes, they can send him another one. And another. And another.
Either end the war or shut down the federal government, Bush. It's your call.
Hm, that last line could even fit on a bumper sticker!

Richardson scoring in New Hampshire
[Read the article: Biden scores; Richardson whiffs]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Their motto is "Live Free or Die." It's most certainly not "Give up fundamental freedoms because you're scared shitless of dying."

agreed
[Read the article: What's worse than watching your teams lose? Watching them win]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm a Sox, Celtics and Bruins fan (hate the Patriots, but that's a long story) and my life is nothing but happier now that I get to root for winning teams.
The two Sox championships were two of the happiest days of my life. I appreciate it all the more because you never know when it'll be another 86 years.
These self-loathing friends of yours need to get some perspective. So do you. They don't represent me, and it's ridiculous (and, frankly, lazy) you'd say so.

Cleveland
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]That’s what you get for building a park on the ocean.

Impeach
[Read the article: Who would Antonin Scalia torture?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Anybody at any level of government who thinks torture is acceptable deserves to be impeached, including Scalia. The fact that we refuse to do so is going to make this generation look like the Dark Ages.
Sad, sad, sad.

How is this a cross?
[Read the article: Huckabee's cross]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The writers are on strike. This show isn't using writers. So how, exactly, is this defying the strike?
It seems to me that the writers are trying to overstate their importance, by equating themselves with TV in general (scripted or unscripted). I'll need a pretty convincing explanation before I'll believe that line of reasoning.

"fiercely independent" my ass
[Read the article: Be careful what you ask for]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Can the media please get over this "fiercely independent" stuff? New Hampshire voters are just as much sheep as everyone else, as evidenced by the fact that they almost always vote for whomever Iowa tells them to vote for. And the rest of the country follows suit.
Anything to not have to make a decision yourself, I guess.
-
obfuscation
[Read the article: Everybody does it]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"...after realizing that there was no WMD, as we thought as a collective body that there was, that this White House, the president set about to make reforms in the intelligence community to make sure that it doesn't happen again."
And then when the intelligence community that he himself reformed gave him a report saying Iran DOESN'T have WMD, he ignored that.

I'm voting for him anyway
[Read the article: Kucinich announces he's "transitioning out of" presidential race]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Dennis Kucinich is getting my vote in November. He's the person who is best-equipped to lead this nation in a positive direction. I will not vote for Obama or Clinton. I would consider voting for Edwards, but Democrats are determined to pick a nominee who's going to lose the general election. Again.
-
Yes, I know it's politics, but
[Read the article: Today's FISA vote]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Why would the Democrats want to take this horrendous law and extend it by 30 days? The best case for the Democrats may be to pass an extension and then have Bush veto it, but the best case for America is for this thing to expire Friday and be remembered as a dark time in our national history.
Let it die, walk away. That's the answer.
-
The last palatable candidate gone
[Read the article: Edwards bows out, but stays on message on the way]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]As well as any chance that I will be voting for the Democratic candidate in November. Once again, America has refused to give me any choice worth a damn.

quote of the day
[Read the article: Schwarzenegger endorses McCain]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"Schwarzenegger appeared to realize how silly the event was getting."
You mean it wasn't silly enough that the guy who played Kindergarten Cop, who is now governor of California, endorsed a guy who said we'll be in Iraq for the next 100 years? It could possibly get sillier?
That's the current state of America, right there.

Anonymous
[Read the article: Big Blue (state)]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"At least NE's football team plays in the same state."
They play in Nebraska? I had no idea.
