  • You know what would be great?

[Read the article: Big weekend news]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It would be great if a candidate could run for office without having to belong to a church at all in order to pass some bullshit legitimacy test of his or her moral fiber.

Obama clearly realized that he was in a no-win situation. After all, how many times has Hillary offered her snide little assurance that she wouldn't have stayed in that church? (Hey, you know what, Hillary? I would never have given Bush his war authorization, so there you have it.)

If he stayed he constantly has to explain himself and defend himself from things he didn't even say, things that would be blown out of proportion, but he would still be attacked for. If he quits, people start writing editorials about how they don't understand why he quit after he made a great speech about race relations (except for the part where he "threw his grandmother under the bus," which prompted a couple of editorials in these very pages.

Meanwhile, a McCain presidency would be the worst idea ever. The preachers on his side are generally bat shit nuts. But they are the right kind of Christians, so nobody seems to care what they have to say.

  • Who would have thought it?

[Read the article: Viva Hillary Clinton!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

What is this on Salon I see? Why, it's about the one millionth billionth photo of Hillary claiming victory somewhere.

Can't remember when I've seen a picture of Obama at any of his victory rallies. Even on those nights when Hillary won one and Obama won one, guess who gets the big photo?

Good thing Salon is so objective, otherwise I'd suspect a huge bias on this site. I can't wait until the convention, when Obama gets his inevitable nomination. I'm sure the picture on Salon then will be of Hillary, looking on from the sidelines.

  • Fairness

[Read the article: Why not let Clinton keep the four Michigan delegates?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

All the Clinton supporters crying foul here. Amazing. If Clinton was ahead, and Obama playing catch up, the tune they are singing would be entirely, completely, 100% different from the one they are singing now.

Why not let her keep the four extra delegates? Because she shouldn't have gotten ANY delegates at all, per the rules that were known at the time.

The "Obama gets Zero delegates" proposal should tell you all you need to know about Clinton's character, or lack thereof. Obama seems to have been more than fair and patient throughout this whole ridiculous ordeal.

  • KStone

[Read the article: Why not let Clinton keep the four Michigan delegates?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

KStone wrote... They gave him delegates which, based on votes cast, equals ALL of uncommitted and a portion of the voters who voted for another candidate which was petty and ridiculous. Of course they tried various pulled-out-of-my-ass reasons - exiting polling, the sudden appearance/rumor of supposedly 30,000 officially uncounted write in votes, the will of the non-voter, what Donna's momma told her, etc.

Umm, you are not sounding too rational yourself. I hope, at the very least, you will concede that Obama would have gotten more than ZERO votes in the primary?

I am really having trouble understanding the Hillary supporter's standard of fairness in this issue. Are you really saying, per the Hillary solution, that Hillary gets her delegates, and Barack gets NOTHING. That sounds fair and reasonable to you? Really?

    Really????

  • This is more like it!

[Read the article: Are you too dumb to vote?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Great letters, everyone! I always learn something reading through them all. This is the kind of Salon experience I've been missing these past several months, with the endless Obama/Clinton civil (or not so civil) war going on. Finally! Thoughtfully crafted letters and reasoned responses.

Ahhh, let me bask a bit. Mmmmm. Goodness.

  • That's pretty racist

[Read the article: Quote of the day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

...They are philosophers and peacemakers of a very high order, and they speak not just to reason or emotion, but to the soul.

So, is this the columnists' sly way of calling Obama a soul brother? Pretty sneaky, if you're asking me.

  • Not bleak enough

[Read the article: How bleak is the picture for Republicans?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

No matter how bleak, no matter how dire thinks appear to be for the GOP, it is not bleak or dire enough. It is nothing compared to what their actions and policies of the past few decades have earned. It's almost impossible to believe that there are enough voters out there who still, now, simply just don't get it.

And I agree with the Reid assessment. Make the Republicans filibuster every single time. Keep them in a continual state of filibuster until they are sick and tired of it.

  • Sorry, Alex

[Read the article: Rep. Kucinich introduces articles of impeachment]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

But you are wrong on the newsworthiness of this. Impeachment may be off the table; maybe this won't go anywhere, but I, and obviously millions of Americans, have had to sit by FOR YEARS watching Bush and Co get away with crime after crime. I am more than happy to finally have the full list of their crimes entered into the Congressional Record. It's about time!

And I add my voice to others in these letters who can only be amazed that we live in a country where the only congressman with the guts to list the crimes of this despicable, contemptible administration should be labeled by you as a laughingstock. If there were only a lot more of Kucinich's kind in congress five years ago, hundreds of thousands of people would not have died and we wouldn't have flushed our economy down the toilet. Ha ha! What a joke Kucinich was, with his silly moonbat objection to the war! Ha ha!

So thank you. Keep the Kucinich is a joke meme alive. Keep pushing it for him, and any other true progressive. We're all laughingstock, jokes, clowns and moonbats. Better to leave the running of the country to those in charge now. After all, it's worked out so well so far.
