Perception
[Read the article: "Sicko"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I am trying to figure out why there is this perception that the USA system is better than other countries with free health care. The fact that we pay less taxes but extreme insurance premiums? The fact that doctors, and many semi-professional practioners, as well as insurance managers drive a Mercedes?
I have never been satisfied with the medical service I pay a huge premium for under a family plan. The complexities of billing and EBS statements are ridiculously time consuming with screw-ups often occuring. Service in an Emergency room is a nightmare of more paperwork ad-nauseum and long waits. Seeing specialists can be up to a six month wait depending on the specialist. The higher premium only seems to provide a lower negotiated price for the service but with deductibles and co-payments I still end up paying for the majority of the bill out of pocket.
It seems the only thing my high monthly premium provides is ridiculous paperwork and coverage that actually includes payments only when a catastrophic illness or injury occurs.
And this is the system we want to keep?

Holy Cripes
[Read the article: Did Clinton really do it too?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Chrisesquette does not know the difference between 'lying under oath' and 'perjury' and claims to be a lawyer? The only affront to common sense and decency is if Chrisesquette actually practices law.
Even putting aside the understanding that Clintons woes have nothing to do with Libbys travails, and the quite obvious fact that Clinton was not convicted or even charged with a crime and Libby was convicted of FOUR FELONY COUNTS, there is still the context which makes my blood boil.
What is more of an affront, lying about consensual boobie play, or lying the country into war, outing covert CIA operations, and then more lying to cover the whole mess up. Please take that context to the next common sense and decency wing-nut Clinton did it too love fest. Thanks.

Nuclear Option
[Read the article: The political fringe]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The poll by itself does not tell us that the high disapproval rating of Congress is due to it's inability to reverse Bushes abhorrent policies and behaviour. But there is plenty of other evidence out there in blogs, editorials, radio, etc, to show this to be a valid conclusion. In fact anything less than Bush being tarred and feathered and run out of town on a rail would meet with disapproval from a substantial portion of the country.
Meanwhile anyone remember the nuclear option the repubs floated when the Dems were using filibusters? The Repubs politically hammered the Dems on the filibuster issue. Now the Repubs are of course using filibusters to stop Dem initiatives, however I do not even see the word said or printed anywhere. This is due to very clever repub politics.
The Dems handling of the politics of their situation (the repubs using filibuster power and Bush veto power) is nothing short of failure. The focus should be 100%, 100% of the time on how negatively Republicans are destroying the ability of Congress to govern with cheap procedural tricks, unwarranted filibustering, misplaced loyalty to president instead of country, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc non stop. Or for crying out loud, how do Dems let Repubs when they are the majority win political points for pointing out that Dems are obstructionists and then get to also win policital points when they become the minority and act as the obstructionists? Dem political ineptness is how.
Their handling of the polling results showing Americans want to end the war is equally lame. Continually repeating they are listening to the voice of the people and must follow the will of the people is weak, they are supposed to be leaders doncha know. Their position should be they agree with the wisdom and compassion of the great majority of Americans and with their will behind them will lead America out of this Bush quagmire.

Great to know!
[Read the article: Tucker Carlson, stalwart defender of sexual privacy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]An anonymous affair with a prostitute is no parallel to President Clinton's disgusting behavior with a staffer
-- droliver
Great to know! I am going right down to my local police station and explain they should be arresting all those people in office buildings having disgusting affairs instead of prosecuting prostitutes and persecuting the God fearing men who partake of their favors.
However, just a technical point - if you are paying for it, it pretty much definitively means you are not having an affair.

Daily Bread
[Read the article: Still more White House secrecy -- this time in the Tillman investigation]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]What's amazing is how often this administration lies even when it doesn't have to. It seems lieing is their daily bread and they would die spritually and physically if they didn't lie.
Tillman is a great story and a high example of what people can be capable of. He sacrificed fame and fortune in order to risk his life for his country and his values. How do you get more virtuous than that - Tillmans behaviour gives me hope for humanity by his honorable and unselfish act. Dying from friendly fire is a tragic ending, however it does not in one iota diminish Tillnams sacrifice and heroism. Were the people of our administration so stupid and dense and so lacking in morality, dignity or character to understand this?
I much prefer Tillmans heroic example as part of my daily bread.

The Cats Tail
[Read the article: Leave the Muslim world alone]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]In reading and comparing a GoldenBigot post and then the AnOptimist post. It's not hard to see what represents the highest humanity can become and what represents the lowest.
And why should anyone have to respond to GoldenBigots questions when he consistently ignores the repetitive debunking of his debased points.
Sure the USA does not make terrorists cut off peoples heads, and is not responsible for that deplorable behaviour, but for the USA to ignore or not be responsible for it's own actions, demonstrates severe ignorance and lack of character as aptly demonstrated by the current White House occupants. Or to put it simply you can pull the tail of the cat only so many times before getting scratched.
