Who wrote this propaganda, the son of Baghdad Bob?
"On one side, we have Barack Obama -- the first black candidate to make it to the finals, a staunch liberal who opposes the Bush administration's Iraq war..."
He has been in the Senate, a position of leadership (supposedly) for a few years now, he has opposed the war how? By voting to fund it? And in what other ways?
"On the other, we have John McCain, a onetime maverick who expeditiously crawled back into the far-right bosom of the GOP and is running as Son of Bush."
In many ways McCain pisses off Conservatives, he is not in lockstep with them or Bush. He is not "Son of Bush". He is "I got to deal with Bush and the GOP to get elected."
"...once Clinton gracefully bows out of the race, her supporters will close ranks around Obama."
My what presumption - now speaking on behalf of Clinton supporters. Man what a dildoe. Might want to ask this question first, will Obama supporters in their delusional arrogance and heady swell of imagined power reject Clinton supporters? Go ahead, presume that answer.
"It comes down to whether America is old or young. I'm betting on youth."
Besides screwing up Obamas unity propaganda, it the single most stupid statement i have heard in a long time. Is this author on medication? Rather then dividing the country so as to pump up ones own pompous ass, a better bet may be on leadership, smarts, and wisdom.
"And no one should underestimate Obama's formidable political skills, especially as an inspiring orator preaching national unity." Preaching? You want a preacher go to church. And yeah has done a bang up job of unifying the Democratic party, unifying the young and old, Democratic voting now happening along racial lines. If Obama keeps unifying at this rate, he'll eclipse the other great unifier, GWB.
...has become the great polarizer.
Obama is basically following the same trajectory as the other great unifier, GWB. Except he has found new things to polarize around and do it much faster.
Black vs white
Black vs non-blacks
Youth vs Age
more educated vs less-educated
the alot Religious vs the little religious
Men vs women
urban vs rural
enlightened ones vs the uninitiated
blue collar vs white collar
Did I miss any other group he is unifying? Sounds like if he gets elected, Obamas first priority will be to install a caste system to keep all these speperate groups in their proper place.
...would have seen that Obama was clearly calling the Middle East conflict, and not Israel, a sore."
I guess Obama and Goldberg are saying Israel is not the sore but just has the sore and the US by association has also picked up a sore.
Ok, so what kind of sore is this - self-inflicted due to un-protected sex or poor hygiene? Victum of circumstance sore from an allergy? Infectious disease? What?
Besides pandering for jewish votes, Obama has nothing to add to the discussion. Unless dithering about sores and platitudes like "peace is good" is what passes for leadership these days.
I thought the GOP said we were a color blind society.
I guess there's still one or two people out there didn't get the memo.
...why Obamacans are freakin' so much. It's not like white working class people count as people or anything.
A new day is coming when well-educated young white people will march down the street arm in arm with their black brethern and...oh wait, well-educated young white people never hang out with black people. Never mind.
Thats the way to go. Doesn't need ironing.
Right after the "historic" speech on race. I predicted the speech would have about the same shelf life as a Britney Spears pop song. And so it goes, especially after the 2nd Obama speech on Wright, which deflated much of what he said in the 1st.
Anyways in his first speech, he threw everyone under the bus (except for Wright) including grandma, and even all black churches by suggesting black churches by default were like Wrights. All it takes is one thinking brain cell to conclude that assertion assinine.
So Camille should be careful, because if Obama gets wind of a Salon columnist supporting him - then bang and thank you very much, off under the bus she goes.
...never call a woman sweetie in a professional setting. Especially someone you do not know. Especicially in front of other professionals. Never. Never. Never. It was arrogant, demeaning, and condescending.
Obama realized his mistake and appropriately apologized. That Obama supporters can't realize his error is troubling.
I don’t understand the argument that just because Naral can choose to do whatever they want, this precludes them from making stupid decisions.
Make it simple. They made a stupid decision.
If the nomination is sewn up as NARAL says, then why endorse? There is ZERO advantage to Obama and ZERO advantage to NARAL. And actually there is plenty of disadvantage to NARAL.
NARAL is about and for women. I don’t know how many Obama supporters have noticed and NARAL may have forgotten, but men do not get pregnant. To ignore that, just to bandwagon with the perceived “winner”, is incredibly cheap.
I never forgave Edwards for his poor showings in the VP debates with Cheney. Cheney effectively made it appear that Edwards was a twerp, a little boy out of his league. The bottom line is that Edwards helped Bush get elected in those debates.
As time goes on it is easier and easier to see why Cheney was so easily able to win those debates.
