  • Majorities and Minorities

[Read the article: Rev. Jeremiah Wright isn't the problem]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Garys premise is flawed. There is a patriotism/nationalism problem in the country but it has nothing to do with Wright. He is seeing a connection where none exists.

Minorities by their very nature as minorities have to yell a little louder, make more of a fuss, and generally raise the hyperbole level a bit or two to be heard and responded to. The majority has no such burden, so for example arguments of reverse discrimination by whites are ridiculous but nonetheless believed by most whites. Wright as a leader of his minority needs to use loud and shocking hyperbole. I won’t argue whether he went over the line in his sermons or not.

The issue is that Obama is running as president on the platform of uniting everyone, majorities and minorities. Wrights hyperbole while serving the needs of his people do not in any way serve Obamas unity platform and actually make the majority (whites) fearful of his being in the “pocket” of a minority (blacks). With whites stupidly already believing they are being reverse-discriminated against, having a black president with Wright as spiritual leader becomes untenable.

COncerning Wrights hyperbole, does he have an issue with gays or is he just ignorant like many preachers are? Just asking, seems kind of absurd for Wright to select AIDS to make his point, when in America, aids ferociously first hit the GAY community not the black community. Hell, if he wanted to make a point why did he not focus on the Tuskegee sylphilis experiments which are well documented and speaks explicitly of the inhumanity this government practiced towards black people?

    Here are some hightlights

"You Are Not One of Us"

gET READY TO GET ON YOUR KNEES AND START WORSHIPPING oBAMA

Just wanted you to know that not all white folk hate black folk.

    PULL THE PLUG ON HILLARY.

I'd prefer an axe-murdering child-molester to Obama, too.

    fuck-wit!

God DAMN America! God DAMN America!

Hagee and Robertson which will cancel out Wright in the general election.

you made a pro-Clinton post, now I will point out how worthless and wrong your opinion is.

    douchebag extraordinaire

the Clinton campaign realizes that they are going to be labeled racist no matter what they do

    This conversation is depressing

A lot of venom being spat here.

every Clinton supporter on Salon as a white racist, or a priveldged (sic) white woman, or a Republican, or some right-wing shill, or a victim, and hiding undercover

    I am your worst enemy

the Obamateur's are simply a traveling carnival

    wanking moron

you are a bigger bigot than me

You say: "It would, however, be utterly disgraceful to vote for someone who I honestly believe is a crook and a liar." Funny, but this is how I feel about Obama.

    She has descended into madness.

This isn't hopeful. And it isn't a good sign of "transcending" politics as usual" or "turning the page."

I will just remind you that HRC and Obama's POLICIES and VOTING RECORDS in the Senate are 95% the same.

Ann Coulter must be laughing so hard she's pissing her pants.

  • You've got to be kidding...

With us getting Sunni insurgents "on our side" by bribing them with weoponry, the Shiites and Sunnis can now really go on a wild ass killing spree against each other.

Was any of this not predictable?

  • Leonard saves Salon from Bias

[Read the article: Obama's plan to change the economy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

When a Salon article favors Obama, then finally thank the political Gods, Salon is no longer biased and it's Change We Can Believe In. If that doesn't work, blame the Clintons. Yeah, thats new.

But Reagan was effective at getting his vision implemented.

So what? So was Hitler. Being able to set direction and influence people is a primary competency for an executive, but there are plenty of powerfully influential executives who screw things up royally on a daily basis. Example number one: Bush does not know crap about crap but continues to be able to push thru thoughtless short-sighted agendas.

Obama setting a "vision" of "regulating" corporations is the same empty rhetoric as McCain espouses with his "taxes are bad" BS. We are going to have regulations and we are going to have taxes. We need to pick a leader that can most effectively determine which taxes, laws, or regulations to implement and which to rescind that best suit the greater health of society. We are not doing that, our elections in the age of media is now more than ever based on cult of personality and bumper stickers.

The more I participate in politics the more I am convinced that politics and religion were invented only so we would not either all kill each other or not all jump off of a cliff without at least discussing it first.

  • 45% = united?

[Read the article: Polls: Obama weathers Wright controversy ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The Journal/NBC poll shows Hillary Clinton and Obama tied, with each having the support of 45 percent of registered Democratic voters..."

"Obama maintains a 49 percent to 39 percent advantage over Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination..."

And that makes sense, how? Tied for support but 10% lead for the nomination?

At any rate, 45% support amoungst your own party is nothing to crow about, especially if your platform is based on being the "uniter".

Also based on campaign contributions any idea why the 45% Obama supporters more easily part with their cash than the 45% Clinton supporters?
