An insulting assertion
[Read the article: Obama's speech on race]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Obama first states:
Did I strongly disagree with many of his political views? Absolutely – just as I'm sure many of you have heard remarks from your pastors, priests, or rabbis with which you strongly disagreed.
Then Obama states concerning Wrights words:
"They weren't simply a religious leader's effort to speak out against perceived injustice. Instead, they expressed a profoundly distorted view of this country -- a view that sees white racism as endemic, and that elevates what is wrong with America above all that we know is right with America.
Obamas assertion that since "we" all occasionally disagree with our spiritual advisors, we also then continue to associate with said spiritual advisors regardless of any profoundly distorted views they have, is false. Most people do not continue to associate with people with profoudly distorted views of anything, and most people do not even dream of attempting the moral gymnastics he feels proud of.
BTW, is Obama now acting like Wiley-Coyote, backpeddling from his initial claims of not knowing about Wrights more extreme sermons?

Wow an amazing amount of unification occurred since the speech
[Read the article: Was Obama's speech enough?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Enough already. Half the priests that I listened to as a child are now in prison, so was everything they said a fraud? -- MrEdCT
Well if the priests you were listening to were preaching child molestation, and explaining how to lie in order to coverup illegal and immoral acts, and you stayed in that church, you should be in prison also.
-------------
Let's briefly forget about the lie that for 20 years he did not know about Wrights more extreme views, and look at what Elian puts concisely.
In any event, I thought the core issue was that Mr. Wright is in a position of authority and influence. ... If you disagree vehemently with the theology or politics, do you vote with your feet or remain in the pew?
For myself, this brouhaha isn't about race, toxic legacies or white grandmothers: it's about the decision to remain in the pew and for so long. -- Elian Gonzales
The issue is not Mr Wrights views, it is Obamas inability, by his own admission, to ACT on what he claims are his values and principles. His actions concerning Wright, and his campaign tactics, put a lie to his speech.
The Bush-man-child currently in the White House is embrassing at times - that America is represented by someone with such limited speaking skills is embarassing. However, that is not what has damaged the nation, it is Bushs actions. If Bushs actions lifted this country and moved it and the world into a positive direction, his speaking limitations are easily overlooked.
So while it was a nice speech (half about race and half about "vote for me"), NO the speech by itself is not enough.
Words are important, actions are what matter.

OUH
[Read the article: Was Obama's speech enough?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]A second important issue is why are Clinton supporters such flaming assholes?-- dataguyx
Some posters seem to be starting a splinter Obama group: Obama Uniters for Hate (OUH) By the way, OUH has three syllables - think of the chant possibilities:
O-Bam-A, O-U-H, O-Bam-A, O-U-H, O-Bam-A, O-U-H, O-Bam-A, O-U-H, O-Bam-A, O-U-H, O-U-H, O-U-H ...
Maybe the issue for Obama Uniters for Hate is that they would love to graduate to the level of flaming assholes, but just can't manage because they have their head so firmly secured in their ass.

"Public Servant"
[Read the article: "You don't care what the American people think?"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This latest bit of Cheney patriarchal heavy handedness once again raises questions for me concerning the notion of a "Public Servant".
How can one be a servant and a master (leader) at the same time?
Are we like children whose parents serve us by taking care of us (because we do not know how to), and also hold dominion over us (because we are not yet capable of making sound decisions)?
Is the only difference between the roles of our parents vs our leaders is that we get to choose our leaders on a regulated basis?
Do we ever grow up and become adults or is the best we can hope for is remaining children in the Republic model?

A chance
[Read the article: The real reason Barack Obama's divisive]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]There is a chance that this article could allow a small reprieve from Clinton/Obama bashing by temporarily focusing all bashing prediliection toward the small and feeble minded BO.

"All nine hours of it. "
[Read the article: A closer look at Clinton's Bosnia schedule]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Alex did you just finish a class on the clever Non sequitur?
It's still 9 hours more than Obama.
Why not count all the hours of foreign visits by Hillary, if the number of hours are sooooo immmportaaaant.
Wooohhh. Hours. Immmportaaaant.
Ok I confess, this article had nothing to do with numbers, had to do with Clintons "percieved" exageration of this event. Just wanted to practice changing the subject as Obama does so well and did so well in his "historic" race speech. (In the music industry, Britney Spears music was historic once too, and then not so much.)

Alternate Universe
[Read the article: Obama's faith in the reasoning abilities of the American public]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"The entire premise of Barack Obama's candidacy is built upon the opposite assumption -- that Americans are not only able, but eager, to participate in a more elevated and reasoned political discourse, one that moves beyond the boisterous, screeching, simple-minded, ugly, vapid attack-based distractions and patronizing manipulation -- the Drudgian Freak Show -- that has dominated our political debates for the last two decades at least." -- GG
Is there an alternative universe where there is a paralell Obama/Clinton campaign running? Obama used a freakin Drudge report to smear the Clinton Campaign over a completely made-up issue.
Ok so nice speech, some nice words, would also be nice to notice that Obamas actions leading up to the speech has put the lie to his words.
