  • Desperation?

[Read the article: New Clinton spin: March 4 states must-wins for Obama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Granted it's hyperbole, but some people really need to come up with new words of denigration. The FIRST woman seriously contending for the president of the US cannot ever be described as "desperate".

Nice insight, Alex, "It's spin". Brilliant. Gee whiz just when I thought campaigns put out unbiased news reports.

The purpose of the Clinton memo was to point out that Obama was out-spending her 2 to 1. If he breaks even in those states or loses based on that spending ratio, extrapolating to the general election he'll have to keep up that ratio of spending against McCain to have a chance. That could be a problem since we of course know Obama would never break his promise to accept public financing and will keep his campaign focused on ideas and not spending power. Just like he did in Illinois where he hired lawyers to elimnate other candidates on technicalities - another glowing example of his commitment to the power of ideas.

And yes, it is not good for Clinton to break even in those two states.

But no breaking even or winning slightly, as much as the Obamites would like her to call the game in the third quarter, does not necessarily rule Clinton out. Whatsa matter, afraid Obama can't hang on to the end? Need a break from sending him money? Getting a little "desperate" for it to be over?

A posting area is not a face to face discussion, it is not a a place for legal signatures, it is a place even with required screen names, to express widely, wildly and freely, in ways not possible before in the history of our sorry race.

Does this bring out cowards, spammers, and poopyhead hehaviour (oops, is the term poopyheads banned?) Sure, but it is all part of the wonder, glory and sadness of humanity. So I am not for the change.

But that's just one of many opinions and in the end I respect a publishers right to set standards of how the site is used according to their own best judgement as owners of the publication.

  • We are the ones

[Read the article: "We Are the Ones"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I haven't seen the video but the title alone could be interpreted in two completely different ways.

The good way is: let's take repsonsibility, we are the ones that have to make things happen, we are the ones who can make America better, we are the ones as a nation accountable for our future.

The uncomfortable cultish interpretation is: We are the chosen ones, the special ones who see where all others are blind.

  • Was her campaign stop in an Ohio town called Hanging Rock a metaphor ...

[Read the article: Hillary at twilight]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

...or a symbol of dogged defiance?

    Huh?

I used to see metaphors, "signs" and alot of other stuff in street names, fence posts, house numbers, clouds and all kinds of stuff, but I was on shrooms then.

Walt I think is trying to get in on Maureen Dowds territory of seeing things that are not there. Remember the color of Gores jackets were pretty meaningful once too.

As Walt is probably aware, neither candidate will have enough delegates to get them over the 2025 delegates required for nomination even if ALL superdelegates went one way or the other. So straight numbers help no-one according to party rules. The nomination will be decided on pure politics and based on that, Hillary does not even have to consider a decision until Pennsylvania is done.

  • If I have this right...

[Read the article: George Bush told the truth yesterday]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

...these civil-suits have been going on for years, with apparently no impact on the ability for Bush to spy on "terrurists", but all of sudden, just a matter of days ago, if the telecoms are not granted immunity by Congress immediately, the "terrurists" kill us all.

Or even worse pre-empt regularly scheduled programming.

  • Both ads don't work

[Read the article: Obama hits back at Clinton ad]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Clinton tries to press the fear button, that sucks, and Obama goes into a faux mocking mode by "Xeroxing" her ad and adding the Obama twist: "I did not vote for the Iraq war". which only reminds me how he had ZERO impact on the Iraq vote and has had ZERO impact on anything Iraq since then. ZERO + ZERO equals something to put on your resume?

Words are cheap, when they have ZERO impact. Martin Luther Kings words were powerful not because they were clever words spoken in a certain cadence, but because they changed the course of history for blacks in this country. Anybody see the difference? Anybody? (just a little of my own faux mocking there)

    -----------

I don't know where manos99 gets the time to post here, with all the time required towards pulling the legs out of flies, torturing small animals, and beating up "grandmas" while gloating over the awesome feeling of power that provides.

  • Branding IS important

    [Read the article: Brand-aid]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

... when selling bottled water, mouthwash, soda pop, dishwashing detergent, etc.

Branding not so important when electing the leader of the most militarily and financially powerful nation in the world. Electing a leader does require more than understanding just their positions, it requires looking at not so well defined qualities, such as character, intellect, analytical skills, talent management, communication, wisdom, ethics, values, etc.

Branding sheds light on none of that.

Branding is not about the candidate it is about the consumer, it is about how do we want the consumer to feel about buying a product. If I buy Marlboro cigarettes I'll feel like a rough and tumble cowboy out on on the range. If I buy a certain brand of bottled water, I'll feel elite, like I am part of "the" cool crowd. If I buy Nike, I'll be a winner like Michael Jordan, or Tiger Woods. Branding has nothing to do with a candidates leadership qualities, it's about getting CONSUMERS to buy PRODUCT so they FEEL GOOD about themselves.

Maybe the boat has already left the dock, maybe politicians are already nothing more than product, and voters nothing more than consumers. Whoopee.
