Venezuela
[Read the article: Beware the Google]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]America’s national interests unfortunately do not include the interests of the people in Venezuela. All the talk about "freedom” is just that talk, more clearly defined as bullshit or propaganda. The only thing America is pissed about is that it’s self-interests are still not furthered, not whether Venezuelans are screwed or not.
People in glass houses should not be throwing stones. And the real pisser for Bush while Chavez is throwing his stones at Bushes little glass castle and Bush is throwing his freedom pebbles at Chavezs glass castle, is that Bush would rather throw bombs, but still cannot come up with even a half-assed reason to at least threaten to bomb him.

The government is like any other company?
[Read the article: Rudy's bogus healthcare stats]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"where the government provides insurance to its employees like any other company..."
I have never heard anything more idiotic. The government is neither a private company nor part of the free market. Correct me if I am wrong, but I cannot shop around for the government I most want to give my tax dollars too. But who knows maybe rainman can come up with names of private companies that have all of their income pre-determined by federal law.
The goddamn question is why do government workers get better socilized medicine than those in the private sector. I say socialized medicine because health insurance is based on a socialist structure, namely that many contribute to a common pool for the benefit of the whole. I know I am using the term socialist loosely here, but the only difference is that pertaining to governmenthealth care contributions are mandatory, while in the private sector it is optional.
Optional that is if you are willing to skip getting necessary health services and risking your health or getting the necessary health services and then risk going bankrupt. Based on todays healthcare costs, you are a fool not to contribute to health insurance (if you can afford to) whether government mandated or not.
And where do free market forces play into getting health care? You're in a car accident, bleeding/maybe dying on the side of the road and you don't get in the ambulance until you get two more quotes from other ambulance services to compare prices? Right. And then also ask to be driven an extra 100 miles to a hospital with better emergency room rates. Ok, that's being a smart shopper.
The real pisser though is that for private industry the goal is to not only benefit the contributers, but also and increasingly to benefit the shareholders. In a government plan, there are no share holders, nor private companies to bleed, so to speak, the contributers.
So government officials like Rudy get the best that private sector socialized health care has to offer. Great, but I say Rudy should act like a true conservative and give up his government subsidized socialized health care. The dumbass can then pay for his next bout of cancer out of pocket.

sociopaths on parade
[Read the article: Mukasey's nomination and the sudden opposition to "waterboarding"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"Most people understand that torture works. While it's commendable to be against any kind of human suffering, as a philosophy it's dependent on being willing to endure the consequence of pacifism. Which is, having one's fate left to others."
Most people believe torture works in television shows and james Bond movies, most do not believe or do not know if it works in real life. The people that "know" are sadists.
And while it's commendable to be against human suffering, apparently it is not practical, so for the sake of pragmatism, let's create as much human suffering as we can. Giddy up and have a fukking rotten miserable day. Thank you very much.
Wonderful sociopathic logic.
But how does Shooters little mind deal with Ghandi who directed the fate of a nation, was a pacifist and did not torture . Ahhh I see, shooter concludes Ghandi freed India by torturing their oppressors with pacifism. And Jesus the useless pacifist he... oh never mind.
The countless ways of sheer stupidity and sociopathic tendency on parade with peacock feathers up.

Of course
[Read the article: Cheney in the bubble]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]When you exclude all the phoney soldiers and phony Americans, in Cheneys head, he does have the support of the American people.
Maybe his head is made out of cement.

Variation on shoot first - asks questions later
[Read the article: Feinstein, Schumer to vote for Mukasey]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"In a statement, Feinstein seemed to adopt an argument advanced by White House press secretary Dana Perino yesterday: The Senate should confirm Mukasey and then "ask" him to return to the Senate Judiciary Committee to discuss the issue of waterboarding further. "
What manager or executive hires first and then asks questions later?
Congress is a nursing home for the mentally challenged.
