This article reminds me how much of our political process is pandering. It's not about policies or direction or any other goddamn thing but squeezing out a vote. Alot of pandering is directed at the poor and middle class using social issues. It's the cater to the lowest common denominater and exploit their weaknesses campaign method. Every day a poltician makes a pandering decision, hmmm do I pander to the pro-choice or the anti-abotion crowd today? lesbians or bible thumpers? peace crowd or war crowd? The Protestants or the Catholics? ACLU or NASCAR? Men or women? whites or blacks or asians or muslims? I interpret this article as simply suggesting to cross out a demographic from the pander list and using pandering resources elsewhere.

I remember a scene in a movie where a politician is looking at a mass grave after a violent city riot and lamenting how it was a pity since the dead could not vote for him. Our political system is filled with self-seeking sycophants with the Republicans being the most blatant and worst of the bunch. These are our leaders. hoo fukkin rah.

And to the Saloniks comment- let me make a clear and nuanced argument - Fuk you and the dumbass ship you came in on.

NO ONE said you can't comment or run for office without military duty. You can comment all you want, and run for offices as you wish. But then we get to comment on your chickenshit cowardly positions. You heard the old saw leading by example? You know if you overwhelmingly feel the need to protect the nation from impending doom you go out there on the front lines and set an example of heroism and self sacrifice? Or do you only like to fuk the ones who do take the step of self-sacrifice?

When promoting sacrificing other peoples lives while sitting on your hands, one of the risks of free speech entails getting described as a flamming ahole.

    See free speech is wonderful.

  • Mis-statement?

"Yes, breastfeeding is natural. So are peeing and pooping. There are bathrooms available for all three of these functions." -- gradysu

You might want to rethink that statement, unless you're suggesting you yourself often find it convenient to be in the bathroom to eat, as well as pee and poop.

I do feel breast feeding is natural and not a big deal - not worth a second thought if I saw a woman breast-feeding in public. However in public places accomadation does have to be made for people of different cultural norms and background. I think respect and accomodation has to come from both sides of this question.

It's one thing for a someone to be political within their organization. Mid-level managers and executives need political skills to thrive in any corporation. A general has to be political in his position.

It is another thing to be a partisan political hack, a water carrier for the political objectives of a political party - the GOP in this case. Petraeus is playing a political hack, selling a message that is obviously narrow, selective, and outright deceptive. It leaves FALSE impressions. It's dishonest. Not what I want a top soldier to be doing.

In any case, if a general stoops to that level of political hackery, then he opens himself up to every form of political response. Betray-us is a political sound-bite in response to a white house political ploy, a response to Petraeus the politician, not to Petraeus the soldier.

  • How can I take Peta seriously

Last I looked unethical treatment of humans is still pretty high. Ask the 2 million displaced or the millions of people dealing with murdered family members in Iraq, not to mention the almost 4,000 killed Americans and 25,000 wounded and their families. Never had to suddenly take care of a parapalegic or someone with brain damage? Well lucky you. Maybe torture doesn't bother you as long as you are not the one being tortured? I could go on forever on the atrocities of human against human just in the modern age alone, never mind historically.

How can I take Peta seriously when treatment of humans is still so totally fukked.

As I wrote at the time, quoting Talleyrand, "it was worse than a crime, it was a blunder." - Leadhead Ledeen

GG asks Ledeen if selling arms to Iran in a time of war is treason and ledeen responds with the most fukked up response I have ever heard. Since when is a blunder worse than a crime? Performing pre-meditated murder is better than accidently getting in a car accident where someone dies? How stupid do you have to be to think this? Without knowing it leadhead undermines his own argument. A blunder is not worse than a crime and most crimes are not worse than treason. Did you leadhead ledeen commit treason? Answer the question you arrogant, self-righteuos stupid chickenshit.

How do these fuks get a public voice?!?

"When was the last time...you saw Republicans, while in charge of Congress, allowing a vote to condemn Pat Robertson, or the American Enterprise Institute for making a strong statement?" - Anonymous

Thank you. You hit the goddamn nail on the head with that one.

Now, if the ad was too strong for panty waisted republicans, who love to support the troops by getting them killed and maimed so they can maintain their illusions of granduer and machismo - tough shit.

For all the others who while not neandrethals or cowards, were still upset by the ad, it did not attack the military or even Petraues's military abilities. In brief, Petraues acted not the part of a soldier but instead the part of an ass kissing political hack and got labeled as such by MoveOns political hyperbole inspired BetrayUs moniker. And read the ad for Christmas sake, it does go on to prove he did behave like an ass kissing political hack.
