SUPERNANNYing: it's not just for kids
[Read the article: I Like to Watch]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I enjoy watching SUPERNANNY not because I have kids or want to be a nanny but because I learn a little about how to deal with so-called adults. Being an actor who directs and teaches, I pick up valuable tools from SUPERNANNY on how to deal with the children I call "other actors," especially stage actors. It also helps me deal with others in the artistic community (and world at large) who have behavioral problems, not to mention my own inner child who needs to be told to sit on The Naughty Spot for a few minutes.
One thing I do find troubling is that all the families who are featured on SUPERNANNY are upper, middle-class white folks. More interesting is the fact that I haven't heard any talk about this. Is it white liberal guilt? Like 'we have to expose the seemy side of the selfish, oppressive majority' as some sort of soul-cleansing ceremony. Wouldn't it be illuminating to see how one of these agents of domestic discipline operated in an inner-city home with no father, unsteady income and the constant presence of violent crime and hopelessness?

What about mistakes?
[Read the article: The fine art of revenge]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Interesting article but the scholar doesn't account one bit for errors in judgement. Or pure, unbridled revenge that seeks some compensation, no matter who has to pay the price, even if it's not the perpetrator. Should we toss out DNA evidence since it might frustrate our desire for revenge?
His philosophy is a shallow argument for barbarism. I wonder what the scholar's response is to Christ's statement "You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.' But I say to you, ‘Do not resist injuries but whoever strikes you on the right cheek turn to him the other as well’" (Matt. 5:38-29).
Ever hear of societal and emotional evolution Dr. Miller?

Copycat crime from GARDEN STATE?
[Read the article: There's right, there's wrong, and then there's shoplifting from Target]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This is kind of like the scene in GARDEN STATE where one of the characters does something similar: he takes an item off the shelf and up to the refund counter, tells the clerk that he lost the receipt and gets a "refund" for it. I don't think that would work in real life; he might just get a replacement and haul it away. Wonder if he got the idea from that?

Groucho, not Mark
[Read the article: The truthiness hurts]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Many people are saying that Colbert is this generation's Mark Twain. I think he's more like this generation's Groucho Marx. Who else can pretend to be in league with "The Man" while poking The Man in the eye, causing uproarious laughter. Remember the scene early on in the Marx Brothers movie "Horse Feathers" when Prof. Wagstaff (i.e. Groucho) dances on a desk and sings "Whatever it is/I'm against it!" while plucking the long grey beards of academia? Like the audience in that movie, the audience at the Correspondences' dinner was "shocked and awed" by the frightening mirror that was held up.

...that depends on if "not" is not "is."
[Read the article: Hitler, Stalin and ... Joe Lieberman?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Okay guys: you and the MSM are overlooking the fact that Dean said "not," as in "This is NOT Russia and she is NOT Stalin." (Clever wordplay but the sentiment still shines through.) So basically everybody complaining is complaining about the fact that he said we're NOT that country she's NOT that man.
Let's face it: Most Americans despise studying history - unless it's coated with picturesque, jingoistic lies about cherry trees, hatchets and how Reagan and the Contras helped preserve the best in America.

Listening more likely
[Read the article: It's a wonder he has time to lead the country]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]How much you wanna bet he listened to "books on CDs" and counted that as reading?

If Democrats don't use this in 2006...
[Read the article: A "heck of a job" for Iraq]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If Democrats don't use this as a campaign issue in this year's dwindling days before congressional elections, they are fools.

Just making them feel better is not enough
[Read the article: Good morning, Baghdad!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I know Dave is just trying to make the soldiers feel better by talking about how evil and stupid the people are that they are fighting but in reality, all he's doing is providing them with more of a reason to harden up their consciences to stay there and kill.
If your country was invaded, no matter what philosophy the occupiers' government wanted to spead (communism, capitalism, democracy, fascism, etc.), wouldn't you feel obligated to fight them, regardless of the tactics?

"A couple more hits," huh Rush?
[Read the article: A fight on the right: Do Republicans "deserve" to lose?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"I think we need a couple more hits on the United States in terms of terrorism to wake us up, too."
Would Rush like to volunteer himself and his family and friends as targets for these "hits?"
He wasn't quoting the strawmen as in the prior sentences. It was definitely his serious personal sentiment, according to the punctuation. So let's urge him to give the ultimate sacrifice in this instance to make up for his inability to serve during the Viet Nam War due to the cyst on his ass. See http://www.snopes.com/military/limbaugh.htm.

Give him a break!
[Read the article: White House: Kerry insulted the troops. Kerry: No, I insulted Bush]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]So now some faithless Dems are railing on Kerry for f-ing up and throwing up their hands in resignation for winning the congressional elections (or Kerry in '08). Jezus! Is noone allowed to make a mistake? Pressure is white hot right now on both sides of this election. I'm surprised there haven't been more verbal snafus. People tell him to lighten up, be a regular guy, stop being so measured and boring in everything he says. So he tries to be that regular guy, messes up the wording of a joke and you guys (the "faithless") jump on him instead of standing up for him. I'm sure Our Pal Karl LOVES seeing Dems turn on each other like this, especially right before the election, far more than Kerry's f-up.

Lighten up
[Read the article: Borat day: The P.R.]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Oh come you fuddy duddies! That was hilarious!
