Weekend Post - Stadium Design

When we go to ballgames, we need to go down beneath the stands in order to buy beers, nachos, hot dogs and so on. We need to stop looking at the game for a while, if we want to go to the concession stands, and if we want to/need to visit the rest rooms.

BUT! We can build better stadiums. (Hyper-correctly, I should write stadia.)

Please imagine that you could walk down from your seat, and the concession stands would be facing you. Just a narrow window with a counter. The people who sell the hot dogs would stand low. You could look over the concession stand roofs, and still see the action on the field. The hot dog people's faces would be about the level of your belly.

These concession stands would hang off of the front of the seating areas, rather than being located under the seating areas.

AND! The ladies' and gents' rooms could be in the same place. You could stand at a urinal, facing the field, and watch the game through a high-ish window, a strategically, modestly located window. Or even sit in the rest room and watch, if they placed the rest rooms and the windows correctly.

This is a challenge to the next generation of stadium and arena architects! Where are they going to build new ballparks and arenas? Detroit is one place. We probably will get a new hockey arena in a few years. Red Wings, pay attention! If you build it, we will love it.

O.J.'s Kids Great Americans

How many of us can imagine what it would be like to live with your dad when you wondered whether your dad might have killed your mom? When your sassier classmates even ask you about it, and make jokes?

A guy I know tracked down O.J.'s son a year ago or so, and went to O.J.'s son's high school lacrosse game. And then he took his own son there to meet O.J., and to get a photo together.

This whole thing is too cuckoo. If O.J. is not guilty, he is the silliest, stupidest guy in the USA. You must believe that if you believe O.J. did not do it. (This is the same defense our Attorney General uses now. "I am silly and dim. I don't know nuthin.")

But life moves on, and O.J. got away with it. How about his kids? What will they say in five years, ten years, and finally, after O.J. dies?

They are going to say what they say now. They will say, "Stop bugging us. We are going to change our names... We do not care."

Everybody's mom dies. Everybody's dad is a jerk, to some degree. King Kaufman's take on the O.J. guilt is correct. Please cool it with your willfull silliness.

Dear Troll:

I live in Detroit (Michigan 48226, right downtown). My name is Tom. I will meet you at the main bar on the second floor of the Greektown Casino, Wednesday, August 8, at 6pm sharp.

I will be the guy in the bright green shirt. You will be the guy who cannot write. Face to face. Real guy versus silly troll.

See ya.

Stop this stupidity.

Thrasher, I just saw your counter offer. But it is after 10pm now. My offer still stands. Please come and met me Wednesday evening at 6pm, at the Greektown Casino. The main show-bar on the second floor.

Or just hush up. King Kaufman has nothing to do with your silliness. If you want to make some point, please post elsewhere.

Deadline Is Now - Greektown?

Any King Kaufman posters want to shake hands and smile, and share a cup of coffee or a glass of wine at the Greektown Casino, 6pm tonight?

Barry Bonds will not be there.

Too Late Now For 6pm - Your Fault - But...

Let's meet and talk. Let's make everything very public here. If you do not want public, I do not trust you, and cannot bother with you.

If you were writing in good faith, you could have/would have resposnded sooner.

You did not send me that e-mail address. You gave it to somebody else. I just saw it. Look at your inbox.

@talk2me

You desereve a star for that asterisk post. You would get about a $half million tax exemption for your charitable donation. It would wipe out your income taxes for the next few years. Cheers!

Different Forum, Please, For Our Respective Worth...

...This is King Kaufman's sports column.

Whether you or I may be good or bad is a question for a different place. Please, if you have legitimate sports comments, write them here, and write them well.

Your political and racial comments would fit in another forum, not here. This is a place for informed and/or clever sports comments.

Just, you and I both, apparently, care about Detroit. Do you have any contribution to the Santa Maria Drum Corps, over on Trumbull, right near Michigan? Can you play drums? Do you have, maybe, an old kick drum to donate? Can you show kids how to play? Or might you ask me what that day care center needs?

Cool it. please. Let it slide here, and e-mail me if I can help you plug into something worthwhile.

@Thrasher, End of the Issue, Correction

It's not the Santa Maria Drum Corps, as I wrote before. It is the CASA MARIA DRUM CORPS, under Mr. Mattson.

It is a worthy cause. I often say Santa Maria, rather than the correct Casa Maria, as grandparents often call their grandchildren by the wrong names.

But, it is a worthy cause. Great day-care-plus for kids here, overwhelmingly black kids, even though Casa Maria sounds Latin.

That's the end of this Thrasher versus Timbuktom, as far as I am concerned. And I hope it is the end of Thrasher versus The King. Thrasher now has my e-mail. Thrasher, please accuse me rather than The King, from now on.
