1. Please note that the current christianist leaders are publicly, out-spokenly opposed to reason. And they are violently opposed to fairness, tolerance, and progress. I am not exaggerating
2. Please note that they are everywhere. It is not just a few kooky guys who inexplicably have national cable TV programs.
3. I have posted before, very hopefully, that these people have peaked, but I am not sure. The leaders seem not to worry that they get themselves tangled up with poop-in-a-suit such as Tom DeLay. The followers seem not to know.
4. There still are actual Christians out here. They probably are the best guides you can hire to hunt down the christianist man-eaters.
W. Bush should have blasted the Somali Al-Quaedas right after Afghanistan. He should have skipped Iraq.
That would have been a War On Terror. And Iraq would be isolated still. And we would have hit Terror much harder.
And W. Bush would be a hero, rather than an all-time, All-American disgrace/failure/new-low diablo.
It's easy to write too narrow a post, and it's easy to read a pos
I meant to delete that, rather than post it...
But the point of the post was that W. Bush should have attacked terrorists after Afghanistan, rather than attacking Iraq. Whether they we in Somalia or Ireland, it would have been a good idea to attack terrorists, rather than Iraq.
Give me a cool car! The re-done Ford Mustang is a cool-enough evocation of the real Mustang from the 1960's, and it has sold well. It costs too much, but it is the right track.
In fairly recent years, the Chrysler Gangster Car (you know, that heavy-looking thing) has sold well. Chrysler also came out with the PT Cruiser (Hearse For Midgets), and when it was new, people loved it, but Chrysler thought it was a niche car, and they did not make or sell enough.
The re-done Ford Thunderbird of five years ago was extremely cool, but it cost way too much, and they quit making it.
So here's the deal:
Make cool cars! GM: Re-do the 57 Chevy! And sell it at a resonable price. You will sell millions and millions. Any company: Make a car with a bench seat in front, so that girlfriends can sit next to boyfriends again. You will take over the US auto market.
Lincoln: For cryin out loud, make a boxy car that looks like a Lincoln, rather than looking like a curvy Taurus! Go back to that reverse rear window. Re-do suicide doors.
I could go on forever, but this is the end. Only one more thing: Bob Lutz is an okay guy. I am sure he agrees with the concept of Cool Cars. He only talks about gas mileage because that's what people ask him about.
(Full Disclosure: I have a nifty table in my living room. One of Bob Lutz's wives gave it to me when I helped her move her stuff out of a storage unit twenty years ago or so. She is a very nice, very smart, very attractive woman.)
One of my US Senators, Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), voted for the Torture And Dungeons Act. I wrote to her, and she wrote back with more than a cursory reply.
Now, based on her note, I believe she really will vote to repeal or overhaul the law, if somebody in Congress introduces such a bill.
She said she voted for the act because, "something needed to be done." I believe she thought she needed it to be re-elected, but she won re-election handily.
So... All Salonistas: If you live in a state where a Democratic Senator voted for the Torture and Dungeons Law late last year, please write to that Senator. Things have changed. Your Senator may be brave enough and human enough to vote better next time.
Many Americans are just realizing how bad W. Bush has been... So, I welcome everybody, and I assure you that this is NOT just Leftie cant.
The problems involving troop levels, and W. Bush's murderous flip-flopping, and his inexplicable bloody incompetence, and the rest... All this is well-documented, and it is true.
Bob Woodward's books are inside good sources, if you want to read beyond Salon. But Salon is a great source too.
W. Bush is extremely good at this. At each step, he steps well beyond what anybody expects.
In previous steps, he successively went beyond reason, truth, American values, decency...
When he was criticized for torture, he made torture legal. Now, we ask him to shut down his wars, and he steps beyond sanity by expanding his wars.
Next he will exceed fantasy. We need to worry that he will attack Iraq and Syria, and possibly other countries. He has two years and thousands of nukes.
He wouldn't really do that, would he? Yes, I fear he will, based on his history. Impeach, convict, imprison!
Andrew, you wrote,
"There's certainly not enough cropland in the United States to satisfy our transportation fuel needs from corn or soy."
Is this true? I do not think most of us have realized the scale of this thing.
Ribico, you may be onto something.
...But 2 times Zero still is Zero.
McCain definitely would be our next President if he came on camera weeping, and told America's soldiers and Marines that he was sorry for W. Bush's criminally bad leadership, and told them that he (McCain) would make sure nothing like this happens ever again in American history.
Instead, he has decided to drag them all down in flames with him and Bush, just to prove (?what?).
