Toyota Will Expand Its Truck Production...

Today (Tues.), the front page of the Detroit Free Press says that Toyota plans to grow by overtaking GM, Ford, and Chrysler in Full-Size Pickup Truck sales.

Just what we need! More Gas-Guzzlers. Supersize me.

Region Still Matters In Presidential Elections

Northerners will vote for Southerners and Texans and Californians (e.g. W.Bush, Gore, Clinton, Reagan Carter, LBJ).

But Southerners do not like to vote for Northerners, especially when the Yankee candidates run against Southerners and Texans and Californians (e.g. Kerry, Dukakis, Ford, others).

Please do not offer up another Democratic candidate from New England or the Midwest. Please find a Southerner or a Cowboy.

Right On, Senator Levin!

Get going with your investigation! Many of us still are in shock, under the spell of W.Bush's and Cheney's arrogance... But the time for change is here!

Yessir! Find out about it! This may be America's darkest deed. Please let the sun shine in, and we never will let it happen again.

Michigan rocks! Let the other Michigan senator, Ms. Stabenow, work to repeal the Torture and Dungeons Law. She voted for it. Let her expiate her treachery by getting it annulled.

And, rock on John Conyers, John Dingle and all the rest of the great Michiganders in Washington!

Finally, let's get that bill passed: The bill about people who were not born in the US being eligible to run for President. Everybody thinks it is meant for Schwartzenager, but our own Governor Jennifer Granholm (born in Canada) will blow everybody away if she gets a national stage.

Original article: The return of the forest

Nasty, Skinny Little trees, Mostly

In my great grandfather's time, Michigan still was covered by 100-feet tall White Pines, but now it has patches of scrawny little Oaks and quick-growing, quick-dying Poplars.

The southeast part of the state has a few nice Sycamores, but the rest is just weed-trees, just beginning to take root.

Deer may like these trees, but deer are only debatably better than horse-flies, and we will not have good forests for another century at least.

A friend visiting from England told me that in England, they have no idle land, as we have in Michigan. He was talking about the land where all these skinny trees are racing up toward the sunlight.

Michigan's great trees provided Chicago's two-by-fours. I wish we had the trees. Chicago is over-rated.

Andrew:

You skirt the edge of the event horizon of The Black Hole of Protectionism. There MUST be some sort of Benevolent Free Trade. You know darn well that protectionism will lead to tragedy.

What is the transcendant new-age solution???

Original article: Pete explains

This is PETE TOWNSEND we are talking about!

1. You who criticize Pete for commercial success and success in commercials: Have YOU ever had a song or a record that was good enough even to be recorded? Have you ever even written a good song or been in a recording studio?

2. What's this with giving P.T. credit for inventing Punk? The Who by themselves are greater than the whole of Punk put together. Do not even mention the Sex Pistols in the same breath as the Who.

Are any of you musicians? Just listen and compare.

3. Zak Starkey does a fine job on drums for the Who Again, just listen.

4. "Won't Get Fooled Again" seems to be the big fan favorite, but musicians pick "My Generation," "Substitute," "Kids Are Alright" and several others above "Won't Get Fooled."

Please listen to the Who songs and the Pete Townsend songs that sing about human soul, rather than the one-dimensional political songs.

I don't mind other guys messin' with my girl, but don't mess with Pete Townsend!

Please concentrate on Ford for a moment...

Ford lost his election. It appears that he tried too hard to be conservative and Jesus-loving, rather than confronting his Republican.

That all-but-Republican approach did not work. Do we want this smarmy stuff at the head of the Democratic Party?

Who beside Carville says Ford is so good? I still need convincing.

I just heard J.Edwards on some NPR show...

And he sounded good! No hestitating or mealy-mouthing on Iraq. (He said, for example, that we face bad choices versus terrible choices.)

He sounded really Southern too (his accent, and so on). That is good. He has some personality. Stay tuned to Edwards.

Original article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily

Even To A High-Roller Such As Myself...

...$51,100,000.00 still is noticeable money. The Red Sox could get the best American free-agent pitcher for that amount plus however much they have to pay this Japanese guy.

Or they could get two or three less-proven-yet-very-good young MLB pitchers.

The Red Sox may wind up with the Japanese Denny McClain or the Japanese Stan Papi. They are buying at the top of the market. This guy's stock is more likely to go down than to go up.

This Debate Is One-Sided...

I feel as if I am in the midst of a bunch of Baptists criticizing Calvinists. I mean I do not understand this debate.

Carville criticized Dean for no obvious (to me) reason. Nearly everyone here likes Dean and trashes Carville.

Is this some deep-seated pre-existing schism among Lefties? Is Salon somehow pro-Dean? Can I still post here if I am not? Can anybody explain the history or background here?

Lott Out From Under The Rug!

Senator Lott says disturbing things, but I also am deeply disturbed by his hair! That is NOT American hair! How does he get it to look like that? Why?

When the new Senate convenes, we need to subpoena Trent Lott's hair, and put it under oath, and and ask some probing questions.

Low Food Security is like Aggressive Interrogation...

... and like Collateral Damage and Homeland Security.

If you explain to these people that they sound like Big Brother, they just stare back, puzzled yet still arrogant. They do not know who Big Brother is.

And they hate it when anybody makes any reference they don't understand, or tells a joke that goes over their heads. I really believe that this Revenge Of The Dopes syndrome has played a huge role in American politics during the past thirty years.
