McCain can argue that the surge has worked and he truly can achieve political progress and buy time.

No, he can't, because it hasn't worked, and it's a complete failure according to Bush's own goals. And Iraq is likely to blow up again before November - Bush's deal to support the Iraqi prime minister in exchange for permanent bases pissed off the Sunni and Shiite groups that had agreed to a cease fire, because they got nothing out of the deal.

It is clear to me that McCain will move to the center, along with his vice presidential pick -- where America is -- and Obama will be cast as a "cut and run" liberal with no foreign policy experience. I can't see America or the vast majority of Independents going for him

Not gonna happen. McCain moved to the center on immigration, and the base hated him for it. Poppy Bush moved to the center and signed a tax increase to reduce the deficit, and lost the base. McCain only came back in the primaries after he moved hard right - he may make the motions of moving to the "center" just as Bush did in 2000, but they'll just be for appearances.

And seriously, "cut and run"? This aint 2004 no more - the vast majority of the country opposes the war now, and even the majority of Republicans are dissatisfied with the occupation.

Joan, with that term you're using a Dean talking point that's inaccurate and inflammatory, and therefore divisive-- full context below. (By Dean's logic, we're now in a 60 year war with Germany, since we still have troops there, too.) Since you're opposed to divisive rhetoric, you'll make a correction, right?

Not buying it, wj. Not buying it for a second. The comparisons to German and Japan are just backpedaling - and lame Republican talking points. Those two countries didn't descend into civil war, and didn't have anything like the tribal/religious division that Iraq has.

Furthermore, you quote Factcheck.org but they have been apologists for Republicans in the past - like when they took VoteVets to task for falsely stating that Republicans had voted against body armor for the troops. Problem was, VoteVets was right and Factcheck was wrong.

    (1) expressing their misogyny through a code word, and (2) buying into right-wing talking points. (You guys regularly let right-wingers do your thinking for you?)

Your nick is appropriate - blowing off criticism of Hillary as misogyny is very, very petty. And completely off base - we say Hillary is divisive because she has high negatives. And because, as Micheal Moore said, she has a tendency to vote with her calculator instead of her conscience. Case in point - the AUMF. And Kyl-Lieberman.
