  • McNamee had a motive to turn in Clemens

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I don't necessarily believe Clemens, but let's get real about McNamee. He made an accusation that can never be proved or disproved, so he will never be able to be accused of lying. Mitchell was clearly looking for a big fish, and only a Clemens would do. Without Clemens, Mitchell's report would look even more petty than it already does. McNamee would stay out of jail and be able to console himself that Clemens would do no time, although he would be put through a lot of personal anguish. Many people in his spot would do and have done the same. It's known as "our system of justice". Ultimately is was Mitchell's need for the big fish that had him naming Clemens without any evidence whatsoever, on the say-so of a guy with a lot to lose if he didn't "cooperate".

  • One in a row...where's the "pattern"?

[Read the article: Was Hillary channeling George Wallace?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'm very disappointed in the direction of Joe's recent Hillary articles. Here, Conason says that "a pattern" of racist remarks is emerging with Clinton. He then proceeds to debunk all the prior accusations of racism. So there is no pattern...even if you concede, which I do not, that her current statement was insensitive or whatever...it's the first such remark to give Conason pause. So where is the pattern, except for the pattern of baseless accusations? Say it ain't so, Joe.

  • Alex, you've already decided

[Read the article: Defending campaign, Clinton cites RFK assassination]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

that Clinton is a phony, so why go through the motions? If she tried to sound sincere, you would say she is "trying to sound sincere". If she doesn't, well, that confirms your "pet peeve". Clinton is damned if she does, damned if she doesn't.

Perhaps the Kennedys were NOT on Clinton's mind the first time she referenced the assassination, and then they WERE on her mind the second time. Not possible? Only if you're looking to shoehorn every utterance of hers into the narrative. Which is clearly your goal here.

It's one of my pet peeves about you.

  • A Pre-Convention Threat

[Read the article: A pre-convention memo to Hillary Clinton]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

After months of accusing Hillary of being a racist bitch, and then telling her to "just give up, it's over" (way before it was really over) Conason can't understand why the Clinton supporters aren't just enthusiastically jumping on the train. Then, he seeks to cement the deal by threatening Hillary with a ruined political future if she doesn't meet his demands.

Joe, maybe you should just put the shoe on the other foot for a moment. Imagine Obama being on the losing side, and the Clinton supporters telling the Obama supporters like Conason to "get over it", with an implied threat of a ruined future for Obama ahead if he doesn't fully embrace Clinton. Somehow, I don't see it going so smoothly either. Under that circumstance, I can easily imagine an election-losing insurrection, which by the way was being threatened by a lot of Obama supporters from day one. Kumbaya my ass.

Let's get real. Clinton is going to be blamed if Obama loses, whatever she does. Everyone knows it, so let's not play that game. At this point, the Obama campaign desperately needs the support of the Clinton campaign. So playing offense, and trying to threaten Clinton supporters with an event that is going to happen no matter what she does, is not going to work and is probably not the best tack. Obama seems to realize that now, but a lot of his minions do not. It is truly Obama's election to win or lose. Stop making excuses before the fact. The ball is in HIS court, not Clinton's.

  • Cutting Off Your Nose

[Read the article: A pre-convention memo to Hillary Clinton]

You Obama guys continue to spit on the Clinton supporters while you ask for their help in getting Obama elected. Make up your mind. I'm a Clinton supporter who is voting for Obama because he's the best we've got now. But I have no illusions about how Obama supporters, and the campaign, treated Hillary and by extension all the people who were behind her...and frankly, continue to treat her and us. I don't want you to kiss my ring, I just want you to treat me the way you want to be treated by me--like partners in a good cause.
