I, too, am grateful not to be Obama. He is in way over his head and it shows more and more every day. He clearly had no idea what he was stepping into. He frittered away most of his first year and now seems amazed people are disappointed. I wonder if he didn't fall for his own hype. We had a good candidate that knew what was necessary, but the powers in the Democratic party once again shot themselves in the foot & finagled a newbie for the job. Perhaps someone should tell him being president is not about pandering to your shrewish wife or vacationing for 4 months or sitting around twiddling your thumbs waiting for something to magically improve all by itself. He was a mistake. Teddy is probably rolling over in his grave at what a horrible mistake he made. And he deserves to be for role he played.
I don't see the comparison. The press has bent over backwards for Obama, so much so, he is beginning to behave as if he were the demigod they've described. Can you imagine what a president as motivated as Clinton could have accomplished if the press had ever given him a fair shake or even an honest account. No, we had Andrea Mitchell delivering entire fabrications 24 hours a day. Arianna Huffington and Bill Maher piling on their vitriol after hours. Hypocrite Newty creating scandals from thin air for any reporter willing to take the bait. Obama doesn't possess the will or the vision of Clinton. So far, he's coasted along only showing up to make speeches when pressured. Obama is a huge disappointment at this point in his term. He's either off sightseeing or making a celebrity appearance with his pals. I don't think that is a good thing for the presidency. He doesn't have the assiduous work ethic of either of the Clintons, nor does his wife. It is early yet and perhaps he will become more involved in actual shaping of policy after he sees the damage the senate can do left to their own devices. What is increasingly clear is that Obama was not ready for the presidency, not in these desperate times.
Just so you know, I am NOT anywhere near right wing, so don't try to make this a partisan thing. My point is that schmoozing for an Olympics bid is not a presidential duty. Michelle was supposed to do this on her own. Now Obama and Oprah Winfrey have been drafted to go with her and, frankly, he has priorities that need attention. I'm all for Chicago winning their Olympic bid, but we, the country, have a plethora of weightier problems. Sorry, but so far your guy has not performed well. He cannot only make speeches and expect congress to magically fall in line. Does he not realize how fickle the American populace really is? Unfortunately, they will listen to the Becks and the Limbaughs of the world and fall right into it without something to compare. All obama has done was furnish ammunition to the rightwing machine. As far as Michelle goes, whoopie do, she had a bunch of children plant a garden and an army of Whitehouse gardners have tended it since. All she's done besides that is complain, embarass us abroad, and demand his constant attention. She may not be service oriented, but this is not an ordinary job her husband has been elected to do. As his wife, she is the First Lady, unless she designates someone else, and it is a service position. She was fully aware of this when he decided to run. That is why we pay for her to have a staff. She can harangue him all she wants when he's out of office, but while he's in he is ours. I, for one, do NOT want to see the repubs take control again while we are in such deep water. If he wanted to party and gad about the world, he should have sought an ambassadorship.
Does he work for Michelle or us? Does he really have so little to do that he can take another trip with his wife? I realize she wasn't really for the whole president thing, but someone should explain to both of them what he's supposed to do. Did he not understand one big reason Healthcare reform has become such a debacle is because he was off gallivanting with his wife for 4 months. It's a wonder he had time to fit the country in what little time he did. Working to get Chicago the Olympics is not really a presidential responsiblity. I would think there are more important things for him to focus on. The obamas seem more interested in trying out for Robin Leach than doing their jobs. So far, she is the laziest and most demanding of any First Ladies in recent history. More and more he's looking like a HUGE mistake. He wasn't ready for this. He made fun of W for being so self-centered and taking so much personal time off. Who is the hypocrite now?
