Please, stop with the silly justifications. They hold no water. Dems who stand up for what they believe in, win. Dems who resort to the kind of "please, don't hurt me" cowering in the corner fear that leads to capitulation on fundamental constitutional right that you seem to advocate, lose.
Obama committed an atrocity today. He voted to undermine a right so basic that the framers sought to enshrine it in the Bill of Rights. That's a deal breaker...but like Obama says...that's OK.
Now then, shouldn't you be getting back to the flock of Demopublican sheeple? It's dangerous out here.
Obama is so busy throwing progressives under the bus, and women, and rights, and backtracking from his stance on getting out of Iraq, that he ought to buy a whole fleet of used Greyhounds.
I don't give a flying leap through a rolling doughnut what McCain "wants" or doesn't want. A president can't do anything without the congress. If a Dem congress won't stand up to McCain, they surely won't stand up to Obama. Take the "fear John McCain" argument and flush it into the septic tank with all the other crap. I ain't buying it.
It's a great article, but when I click through to some of the producers that are linked, I take a look at the prices and am left wondering who can possibly afford it? Pork loins are going for better than ten dollars a pound. Even pork fat (depending on whether it is from the back or the belly) is not far from that.
I'd love to participate in this "humane" and sustainable farming/consumer/produce culture but frankly, I am simply priced right out of the market. What can I say other than it sucks to be poor...or at least not very well to do.
It isn't just Clinton die-hards that think her name should be entered into nomination at the convention. I wasn't even a Clinton supporter and I think they should call the roll.
We had a historic primary where the Democratic Party ultimately chose between a black man and a woman to lead the ticket this fall. They both deserve some recognition. And there is also the whole "coming together" thing. You don't think that the real die-hard Clinton supporters, people Obama needs if he is to win in November, are going to be more than a little ticked off if their favorite candidate is not at least entered into nomination?
For me, it doesn't really matter. I won't be voting for Obama regardless. But if Obama wants to win, he and the convention planners would be well advised to give Clinton her due.
From the text:
So far, no lawmaker has openly endorsed a proposal for a new Church Committee-style investigation. ... The Democrats' reticence on such action ultimately may be rooted in congressional complicity with the Bush administration's intelligence policies. ... Some see a brighter prospect in Barack Obama, should he be elected. ... But even that may be a lofty hope. "It may be the last thing a new president would want to do," said a participant in the ongoing discussions.
You say it yourselves. Democrats were complicit. There is potential for an investigation here about like there is potential for Obama to keep his word on FISA or potential for Dubya to be remembered by history as our greatest president. Ain't gonna happen.
I've woken up to a fact that has left me quite cynical and that fact is this: The current difference between Republicans and Democrats and their abuse of power in this age of "war on terror" is like the difference between the front and back sides of a dime. The faces are different, but it's still the same coin.
There will be no investigation. If any chance of one pops up, look for the post-partisan unity shtick of the Obama folks to shove it right back in the box just the way Bill Clinton did with the first Bush admin scandals (What? Everyone forgotten already?) back in 1993. We'd have more chance of a full investigation with McCain in the White House and Dems in control of congress...but not much more. I'd say the odds go from about the Obama-FISA/Dubya-greatest president class to the class of a foot of snow in Miami. In July.
How is 272 coasting when 270 are needed to win? How is 272 coasting when it's a decline from a previous projection of 296?
How about letting the readers decide for themselves about what "the last thing the country needs" is? Semi-aware? Please! Try stepping outside the ORDS (Obama Reality Distortion Field) for a while. John McCain is no progressive, but he is certainly no George Bush.
Should have been "Obama Reality Distortion Shield", not field.
