You assert that:
"Last month's Chicago Marathon had to be shut down mid-race, because undertrained five- and six-hour marathoners couldn't handle that much time in the 85-degree heat."
While I understand that characterizing it thusly backs up your thesis, the reality is that the uncharacteristically (for Chicago in October heat AND humidity, combined (tragically in one instance) with bizarrely unprepared race organizers, who ran out of water very early in the race (almost immediately, from the sound of things), led to the questionable cancellation of the race.
As a high school English teacher, I'd give you credit for using what we call a concrete detail (CD).
But as a clydesdale and/or penguin (large and/or slow runners, respectively), screw you, buddy.
I'm sorry, was Keith at all wrong? No, of course he wasn't. He was right on target. So what gives? Your post makes no sense. What was your motivation?
Fabrisse2 said EVERYTHING I was going to say. The original Cupid was special. Though don't we often feel that about shows that were taken from us too soon? Either way, it was a show I FELT. It certainly could been a case of the right place/time, as I was twentysomething and living in Chicago when it aired. My girlfriend and I would actually stay in on Saturday nights to watch it. I downloaded the original episodes (http://isohunt.com/torrent_details/7927697/cupid?tab=summary) a year ago, and while it didn't feel the same, this time I enjoyed the nostalgia of it. In retrospect (and maybe even at the time) it seems like a Love Boat type show. It felt decidedly retro at the time. Actually, I think ABC was airing a Love Boat remake at this time too! :)
Seriously. It's not what I come here for. If I want a peek into the mind of the right wing slime machine, I know where to go.
What a bunch of hooey. It's either outright bigotry or pandering to bigotry. Enough, Salon. If I want to take in right wing bullshite, I can find out what channel Fox News is on.
Not to pile on, but I also do not think you had to throw a bone to the right and say that Krugman is "playing the blame game." We get this false equivalency all the time. Like, say, Michael Moore and Rush Limbaugh are the same thing, only on other sides of the spectrum. Like hell they are! And I really hate it when it comes from a course I respect and trust, like Salon. So cut it out. Keith and O'Reilly are not the same. Rachel and Glenn Beck are not the same. Etc etc etc.
Joan, I think I know the REAL reason you went on O'Reilly: You KNEW a lot of his viewers would visit Salon afterward, resulting in (a) increased page views and/or (b) the chance that a certain percentage of these first-time visitors might, just maybe, read something here that challenges the misinformation/disinformation they get from Fox.
Oh sure, you're going to have to wade through a lot of angry and error-filled comments (didya ever notice how right wingers can't spell too well?). But maybe you figured it was worth it.
And, hey, they will certainly enjoy that wingnut column. I certainly don't. :)
All hail the return of Bill Wyman!
Roberts seems like quite a fuddy duddy for a guy who was barely 30 at the time.
And it's happening here in Arizona too!
Amen to your final sentence, Joan.
Nice job against that cross-eyed talking points machine. :)
...was an LOL read. And, while reading it, I just KNEW they were going to make a movie out of it. Sounds like the book might be better. When does THAT happen?! Oh yeah. Always.
Didya ever notice how Randy boos each and every time Simon is introduced? Every time. It says a lot about Randy. I think they should have rotating guest judges, except for Simon. I think that'd be fantasic.
What a great song. I wish I'd been there, singing along. I think I know all the words. Also, what a cool bar to play something like that! What was next? "Love Will Tear Us Apart"?
I stopped reading into the first paragraph. What utter and complete bullshit.
I also like the Post Office. So I don't get this talking point where they assume that we hate it and then compare something else to it. Is this tactic really effective? Or does it work on Republicans because hate the Post Office? Because it's Socialist? Or something?
That is an awesome apology. I'm sorry for what I said when "that woman" was "prattling on." He really HAS grown...into a bigger and bigger douchenozzle.
Someone already beat me to it, but "squirgle squirgle" made me LOL until I PMP.
But you don't specify about whom the Grayson comment was made. Was it a woman? I have my doubts, because if it were, you would have said so.
Jealous much?
