Reagan may have been a nice guy, but in contrast to Jefferson, Jackson, FDR, JFK, who appealed to our intellect, Reagan appealed to ignorance. In fact he made ignorance a patriotic virtue. That is what led directly to his legacy of GW Bush – Pretend your Reagan like and the masses will fall for it. And they did. I’m afraid it says more about our fellow citizens than Reagan. Will they wise up for the next election or continue to vote against their self-interest; still believing some kind of (corporate sponsored) flag waving mythology that ignores our Constitution? I am not optimistic that - with sleazy (corporate-owned) Republicans, impotent (corporate-stooge) Democrats and sensationalist (corporate biased) news media – truth or at least reason, after Reagan, is hard to find.
Why are not all broadcast companies under the common carrier laws as telephone, telegraph, and transport companies have been for over 200 years - a basic premise of free enterprise and free speech -separating delivery (hardware) from content. Why, why, why did this not happen the instant broadcast media became a two way communication system? Money I’m sure.
The only way to get these telecoms under control is to force them into public utilities under enforceable common carrier laws.
