  • OMG I think everyone I know would love a new version of Oregon Trail!

Anne in NYC that is a brilliant idea, I wish someone would develop that.

I dig FPS - mainly those that include a co-op mode. Its more fun to fight along side a friend - I don't know if that is girly though - I think lots of guys enjoy that as well - since that seems to be becoming standard in shooters. (Even a couple based on that like Army of Two.)

I remember one a while back a totally co-op space game called Armada on the Dreamcast (too bad that console died.) It was a fabulous game and one of the few that really seamed to cross and blend FPS with RPG and you played completely co-op - in fact tethered to your teammate. Fabulous game and the sort that I think would interest both men and women into playing. I wish there were more of that sort of genre blending.

I have nothing against the games under discussion here (except for the fact that as has been said most titles from movies suck since they are just movie merchandising) but it seems kind of lame that the only way game execs think they can interest women is with girly titles.

Many women may be less interested in violent or seriously competitive games - it might also be they can't or don't want to devote the time it takes to play those more emersive games that you need 30 hours to play. But with the overwhelming popularlity of titles like the Sims, the Wii console and much on it and the explosion of Rockband (maybe the best game ever?) there is no doubt that there is a market out there.

  • Too funny!

OMG I'm breathless from heaving with laughter reading that drivel. There are a lot of parallels with the 'war on terror' but none of them flattering of the Bush administration. I'm shocked someone could commit so much bullshit to paper and publish it for anyone too see. But it is fun to see the floundering neocons grasping for something, anything to justify their existence.

Thanks for the laugh Alex Koppelman! I agree, I doubt you could really top that quote of the day :)

  • PUMA is a Republican smear group

After two articles earlier this month by Rebecca Traister and all of the attention on this site about the angry Clinton supporters I wish Salon would have offered a follow up when Amanda Marcotte uncovered the obvious truth that PUMA is a republican operation.

I'm sure there are some genuinely unhappy Clinton supporters but those who would vote for McCain (or generally defect because of Clinton's defeat in the primary) have been exploited by a repug media campaign rather obviously and embarrassingly.

Ronald Reagan won the election. Going to the convention will not stengthen the party. That is why Clinton dropped out when she did for the sake of party unity. You and the republicans don't like that because it does not feed the sorry meme of the divided democratic party.

I think all of that is correct- I'm sure lots of folks whose wages are stagnant and cost of living ever increasing don't want to throw more good money after bad. I'm sure a lot of folks also don't like the idea of paying for debt that probably should not have been incurred since there was little reason to believe HRC had a valid shot at it by the point she started incurring that debt. Then there is the fact that the Clinton's have millions more and only need to make a few appearances or sell some books to recoup their personal money. Finally, I wonder how many voters were partaking in the 'operation chaos' and never had any intention of suporting Clinton but just wanted to screw around with the democratic primaries.

Sure there has been acrimony and bitterness following primaries before. One of the major differences between now and 1980 -that you cited in the first place- is that there was a much bigger difference in the vision of policy between Kennedy and Carter. Clinton had a much more similar platform to Obama. That is why I'm sure she won't challenge Obama at the convention. But I didn't bring it up- only a few dead-enders keep bringing that up as some sort of hope they hold out that she will. I'm glad you've come around to the reality of that at least. (I didn't say you came up with the divided party meme- just that it is a perenial media favorite and that the drama a few hillary holdouts whining to whoever will listen feeds into that meme was the point.)

I know you don't care if you incidentally help the republicans- you're and independent now anyway- but aren't you embarrassed to be used by them?

You say "Unless Obama shows me that he is not the petty, arrogant, ruthless person I believe he is underneath all of his lovely speeches..." and conclude with "I judge actions."

But that is the crux of it- you believe the opinions you have formed are facts and can't seem to see past that. Even if you base your opinions on facts you have encountered they are still your opinions. You don't need to be rational or logical of course and you can be bitter and angry all you want (by the way it is only bitter women that seem to assume all bitter HRC supporters are women....) who could stop you from being irrational and angry?

But everyone has the right to fact check, to call it out when you present your opinions as fact and to point out that PUMA is part of the republican smear machine. I'd think any rational adult- no matter if even justifyably angry- would be embarrassed to be associated with a group seeking to exploit them so obviously.
