Its sometimes difficult to remain an idealist. I know but it helps to have others like you around :)

I've been made fun of consistently for my desire to seek out the good in others or to understand a situation form anothers persective. I do it reflexivily- I'm trying to make myself sound good or nice- its actually rather a pain in the ass when there are times that I should respond with anger or indignation.

Anyhow, I think you're right- just keep reaching out.

(The turn the other cheek thing hit me like a ton of bricks I must say. to understand that viscerally. I can't wait to have a discussion with my husband who is by temperment a much more faithful person than I am- he will enjoy this epiphany.)

It has me thinking too- in terms of this election- I guess that is a signigicant part of my dissapointment with Hillary. She wears her scars proudly - and rightly - but responds with the same tactics! What an opportunity lost. She could be talking about doing it differently. Not rolling over to the right wing but refusing to roll around in that mud.

That is not to say that I don't understand the instinct to fight fire with fire. I do. But as we know that is not going to change a thing.

I think that's why Clinton lost her 20 point lead and presumeed nominee status. Not to the new guy's shiny eyes and smooth talk but to the new guy's message of hope that resonates so deeply. This departure from the mud slingling that gave her those scars in the first place. The change so many crave.

Also in your later post about critism of Obama- I am so totally with you on the gay community. It is very dissappointing. The generational change he represents makes this even more hypocritical. I do think he is the candidate least likely to pursue or approve of legislation that would be harmful to the gay community. But it is shameful that we can not have a serious candidate that can and will stand up for full human rights for all.

I feel bad writing at you at this late hour after your post about the ignore list and how the reply can get overwhelming. But I really respect you from your writing - I think thats why a lot of people probably direct at you- and wanted to concur with you about the issue of poverty.

I was originally leaning towards Edwards in the primary for that very reason. So that is something we have in common.

We like to pretend we have a classless society or at least everyone is middle class. But it really isn't so. The gap is ever widening. It is all tied up together, I don't think you can talk about any kind of justice- race, feminism, anything without economic justice.

Which is all inextricably tied up with war. The war machine grinds on and it disproportionately affects the poor, and the women - who are often both- of the world. Throughout time this has been so. The poor have to fight the wars, the poor get displaced by the wars. The wars misdirect the treasury and all of our labor into the pockets of the already wealthy.

That is why it is imperative to get rid of the neocons in the fall. I think we can all agree on that.

That is why I have so much trouble with Hillary's war vote. And why I have so much reluctance to get behind her even though she is a amazing person with a lot to offer.

That is why I support Obama- his persistent objection to the war - and the possibility of doing things a different way.

We have to get out of our respective corners and deal with each other. We have to ignore that it is impolite to talk about money and class. So that we can have a thoughtful discussion about the things that really matter. Life and death matter.

I really wish that Edwards would run with Obama!

Thank you for posting those videos. I think it is unfortunate that Joan Walsh has not responded to you.

Reading over many of your comments I just want say that I really appreciate them and concur. I think there should be attention to those videos - not in the contest to see who is most aggrieved but to further highlight the ugliness were up against. I know, as if we didn't already know- but damn I was taken aback by the vitriol spewed there still!
