There are a thousand letters here and some of them contain insults. They are from the usual suspects. There are many more that contain actual arguments and yes many point by point refutations.

I have in weak moments of frustration gotten snarky but I have never call Joan, or anyone else, any of the insults you site ever. Did you have me confused with someone else?

Also, I have no problem with Joan being biased. I wish she would own up to it though and many others have asked for the same. (Huffington is very clear about her biases.) instead she writes under the guise of being even handed. She keeps trying to develop and circulate memes that will hurt our nominee and calls that her declaration to come together. I have no problems with biases - I have problems with intelectual dishonesty.

I should have put it this way -

Do you really believe every argument made here is an insult?

    What doloresflower said ...

It is obviously your prerogative if you want to shut your mind tight and not let any light in. You may think people are crazy for supporting Obama – that’s cool too. But a lot of good arguments have been made. It is not outlandish I don’t think things will be as bad as you think.

Will we be disappointed at times? Yes, most assuredly since we’re talking about a human being. It is almost inevitable that we will be let down and some promises will not be kept and I’m cool with that as long as Obama continues to display the leadership he has and does his damnedest to stick to his principles. Btw- I don’t agree with all of his policies but I’m looking for someone with judgment and someone who can move and persuade people in an honest way. The president can’t fix the world but can harness the power of people to make great changes if they are inspired.

I don't see supernatural, or superhuman. But special person, yes definitely that. Not a messiah or a prophet but a leader.

The reactions against Obama- those that are recoiling reflexively angry and fearful seem to be instructive too.

  • On golf, media, letters...

In addition to what John Carson said about the golf thing, isn't it possible this was a sign of respect? Do you think Clinton maybe wanted the day with her supporters? Her moment on the stage. I think that is all well and good.

@ AKA In terms of the media and the proposed boycott- doesn't Joan Walsh regularly appear on Hardball? I have to say I like Olbermann and MSNBC but I watch it regularly and not just snippets of it where it is being used for a particular purpose. (I also love Rachel Maddow who is a regular contributor on Countdown and who is no enabler.) Don't you think it would be more effective to put pressure on the networks and cable chat shows to include more diverse voices, faces and viewpoints? (Of which there are already a great many.) To tell them the issues you really care about and apply pressure in having those covered more effective. (BTW- I'm watching Joan on CNN right now and it is an awesome discussion.)

I do think the postcard campaign to Clinton is a good idea. I didn't support her but she was my Senator when I lived in NY and did put a lot of cracks in that glass ceiling. I think I will too send a note of thanks.

Certainly you can do that, I'm just saying I see a more effective route. There are a lot of voices out there and if you had a tv you'd see a lot more discussion going on. I'm not saying it is all great - there is a lot lousy punditry, not a enough accountability for people to stand by their statements or predictions and a whole lot of appealing to the least common denominator and sensationalism.

For instance with Matthews he is probably sexist but more as a result of being incredibly shallow and personality driven. I don't watch Hardball regularly (but I've been thinking about it since Joan Walsh contributes frequently.)I watch his Sunday show since he always has a great panel.

Olbermann is truly different. His Clinton slamming has been about the war. He slams everyone about the war. He signs of every evening with the number of days since the (still) president announced mission accomplished.

I think it would more effective to push for the ideas that you want to see discussed. People are listening, Joan reads her blog comments. The ideas that are being talked about out here in cyberspace do filter into the media. Letters and calls to networks or on the blogs of respective media personalities do have and affect and influence the discourse. I see that as a fundamentally good thing. (Sure its messy but overall for the good.
