No I’m not a fascist just someone who cares about the meaning of words, especially when it comes to our actual Constitutional rights. Part of the agreement to be part of the community here is that whatever the editor deems abusive or wrong will be deleted- it is right there when you post. It is a far cry from censorship. You have no right to free expression on Salon. Do you get that?

It may seem arbitrary and maybe they shouldn’t pull down something for the word you uses. Not my call. I suspect the editors are a little overzealous right now but it is still within their rights. Is that really a fight worth taking up?

Incidentally, I was disgusted by Clinton’s authorization of the war and her hawkish-ness in general and did not support her. I think you can find other ways of expressing those things without calling her names though.

jeb I have never been one here to deny that there was sexism in the campaign - I just do not believe it was Hillary's downfall. If you want equality it does mean succeeding and failing on the merits. And I’m not saying it didn’t ‘slightly’ affect the outcome- I’m sure it did both in apathy and sympathy. I was disgusted by the way she played it though and disgusted by supporters of hers here telling me I’d drank the koolaid and was ‘following the boys’.

I’m really thankful that we’ve reached the point that we have two candidate winnowed from a field of a dozen – all of the other’s white men – and the final come down between a woman and a black man. That is incredible and historic.

And I do believe Obama is a feminist RCMoya and I wasn’t being cute. I’ve read a lot of posts in the past couple of days here about how people don’t “feel” Obama really cares about women’s rights – that he is a poser. While I think it is important to listen to your gut – I do that after I look at the actual facts on the ground. In his case there is verifiable evidence in the work that he has done and the votes that he has cast that show me the Obama cares about these things. I can’t convince anyone, especially if they think their hunches have more veracity than facts.

I was trying to be nice because from the way that you write I figured you're 13 years old or an idiot. I have to conclude - maybe both but definitely the latter.

I don't think my point was spectaculalry complicated- this is a private publication- they have the right to delete what they want. It is not the governement supressing your speech- it just isn't a censorship. In fact- as private org they may have some liability to control what is said on their boards - not curses but threats and such.

Anyhow, sorry our school system failed you. Hopefully things will get better but it is probably too late for you and that sucks :(

  • Isn't the other 18 million voters thesis insulting to Hillary?

Haven't read all of the (already over 200) letters yet. But it strikes me that the very premise of the 18 million voters that Obama has to win over is insulting to Hillary. It seems to me that implies they only voted for Hillary to vote against Obama. But there were a lot of people whose first choice candidates (including me) dropped out before they had a chance to vote for them. Then you have a choice among the remaining candidates- that's how it goes. Many of those who supported Clinton in the primary already said (in exit polls) that they would support Obama in the GE. (So in fact it is not really all 18 million but about 30% some percent who said they would not vote for Obama if he won the primary.)

It seems silly and insulting to her accomplishments of winning over voters that she was not their first choice and perhaps Obama second (given how close they are on much policy) that people voted for simply to vote against Obama and that they would not come over unless they are somehow persuaded.

Still reading through the comments but I think I have pinpointed what has been bugging me so much about Hillary's campaign and all of the talk about it...its a simple thing really- I don't appreciate being used as a wedge. I would have really loved to be able to support the first viable woman candidate but she used whatever issue she could, whatever demographic she could garner as a weapon- a bludgeon against her opponents. I didn't like the dirty tactics- and have said that repeatedly but to put a finer point on it- no candidate deserves anyone's loyalty for their identity or affiliation. They need to earn those votes.

Conversely, while people have talked about Obama dissing some groups in favor of the young, etc. he has in reality always talked in a way to reach out to people, to expand the base. He has tried to add on by talking about what we can do together rather than the divide and conquer we have gotten so used to. I have no doubt he recognizes the challenge of reaching out to Clinton's supporters- I hope that the chatter around memes developed and fed by articles like this don't harden people against what he might say and do to reach out to them.
