My previous post to H. Smart's Miss
[Read the article: A new low in Clinton bashing]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Now with spell check and mildly improved grammar!
I pretty much lurked here until the recent campaign but I've loved Salon for years. I agree this is an impressive forum and it is good to have disagreements. Even if it can be difficult to acknowledge the validity of someone else’s perspective when we get so heated up. That’s the danger really- becoming entrenched in our positions. But I know I have been moved and influenced by other people’s thinking and appreciate being part of this forum - even if sometimes it seems my blood pressure rises a little too fast- it is worth it!

Hillary's big test
[Read the article: Blow-back from Clinton supporters hurting Obama?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The next few weeks will show what Hillary is really made of and if she really cares about winning more than the country.
What happens after the rules committee seats part of the MI and FL delegations? Despite her most fervent wishes there is no sane or fair way to reward HRC all of the MI delegates and none to BO. They both signed the same pledge. It is the height of intellectual dishonesty that she keeps working the popular vote angle when she knows (or should know by now/snark) that the caucuses do count- no matter how loud you yell or how hard you stomp you’re feet – that doesn’t change. Ginning up outrage over that (when she doesn’t even hold the popular vote lead!) and the big mean bully boy meme she has managed to perpetuate don’t reflect well on her but they have worked to keep her in the news and her campaign alive. Marginal but alive.
What I don’t get is how- if she is such a victim of sexism- with no plan to deal with that outside of complaining – how she plans to win and lead should she actually pull out the nomination. I posed the question a few times in the mammoth thread in Joan Walsh’s blog with no reply- what is Hillary’s plan for dealing with sexism? Why does she need protection from the bullies? I’ll add here- if she can’t stand up to the pundits here- how is she going to fare with world leaders – some who would have a problem shaking a woman’s hand. Obviously that is not right – but how would she handle it? As far as I can tell the only plan is to have supporters get outraged and protest. Will that help the POTUS?
At any rate- yes Clinton’s supporters will need to support Obama if he is to win the GE. Certainly he will need to reach out- to women, to the working class- to all voters really. On the other hand, I return to the beginning of my post- if BO is to win then HRC will need to show the country matters most and start undoing the damage she has done. The flip side is – if she we’re to somehow pull it out – the methods would probably be so damaging and so alienating to so much of the electorate that I think it is highly likely that McCain beats her. I’m not saying I wouldn’t vote for her – I’m saying what she would have to do would be so over the top and so disenfranchising that I think she could seriously break the party. Since she and her supporters have been holding it over the heads of everyone that she will walk away with her votes – she and her supporters need to seriously consider the ramifications of winning the nomination in the only way she can- by overturning the primary results. It would not be pretty folks.

I know kohoutek!
[Read the article: Blow-back from Clinton supporters hurting Obama?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It is so frustrating. My sympathy for the insults Hillary has endured diminishes everyday. All of the outrage around her is coming from women who have experienced discriminatory and just plain bad treatment because of their gender. Yet they are shocked and surprised this occurred? What was the plan?
I’m also disgusted by her campaign and supporters attempt to paint every legit criticism as sexist. And I’m really sick of people blaming Obama for the loutish remarks of some pundits and some of his supporters. While I’m frustrated with the behavior here of some of HRC’s supporters (who have called me all sorts of nasty things for betraying my gender) I can separate that from the candidate whom I do not like because of her positions (war vote!) and because she has run a seriously shitty campaign. It was hers to lose and that is exactly what she did.

The whole post is awesome, ChristopherK, but this oparticular point bears repeating over and over and over
[Read the article: Blow-back from Clinton supporters hurting Obama?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"We tend, on the Internet as in any other situation, to notice the wrongs coming at us, but not pay much attention to the wrongs our allies are casting. But the truth is, there are chuckleheads on both sides of the Clinton/Obama camps. (And then there are folks like Shawn, who live in a bubble of unknown agenda...!)"
I've been thinking about this one a lot!
When someone burns you it hurts- quite a bit! Even when their insults are unfounded and completely meaningless it feels personal. On the other hand, while getting in a well timed jibe in can feel good, that satisfaction pales in comparison to the pain of receiving an insult.
It also seems to me it is easier to casually insult someone and forget but harder forget, if not forgive the slights against us.
I try to keep all of this in mind when I’m seeing red but generally walking away from the computer is the most effective cure.
