[Read the article: McCain campaign baits Obama on Clinton slurs]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I think the thing that bothers me most is the way the Clinton campaign has co-opted the right’s tactic of attacking your opponent on your own weaknesses. No one really explored the charge that Hillary had more experience (when I say no-one I mean the pundits – I did see some discussion of that in the comments on this site) while she has less legislative experience than Obama. Say she had won the primary – how would she turn that around to fight McCain? He definitely has a good resume even if he is on the wrong side of issues. (That applies even more so to her electability argument. She had incredibly high negatives coming in and is a divisive figure to the electorate- some of that being sexist most of it having to do with being a Clinton.)
I guess the point is that it doesn’t matter to the Clintons. They’d figure it out after the primary. And that is one of my big problems with them – the triangulation and easy reliance on expedience instead of integrity.
I don’t think the Clintons are racist but they were quick to appeal to the racist vote. I think that is maybe even worse. What were they going to do about that in the general – when they needed to get the black vote back? Whatever it would take, I guess.
That is the problem when you are fighting to win at all costs. Instead of your tactics flowing from a strategy that is coherent because it reflects your beliefs and values – it looks like a cluster fuck or a kitchen sink. And besides being morally bankrupt it is also bad strategy!)
My suspicion that this is so is only affirmed over and over when I see Clinton supporters all over saying that Obama is sexist or that his campaign has placed the race card because they refuse to ever back it up. It’s a cheap tactic but unfortunately it works all too well as Rove has proven. It is sad to see the Clintons embrace this approach and in the process sully their reputation and legacy.

Somebody is vying for a job!
[Read the article: Carville says Obama is likely nominee]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Guess Carville is seeing the writing on the wall. He's brilliant but I don't think he belongs in Obama's campaign.
He should however, pursue his acting career. I just saw the "Assassination of Jesse James” and his bit part was awesome. Also, I nearly pissed my pants laughing at his appearance as himself on 30 Rock.
Nice of him to say though- I think he really is part of the party faithful. Still don’t understand how he can be married to one of Cheney’s minions (hey- there are republicans and then there are republicans.)

[Read the article: Poetry vs. fear]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Thanks jumping on that nastiness. I'm no fan of KateTex but let's keep the discussion at a grown up level. And take it from me- i was teased daily for my name in grade school it was painful but if you can't come up with something better than that- it show's your lack of intellignce and creativity and it would be better not to say anything. I support Obama but I cringe when I see that school yard taunting and thinly veiled sexism aimed at Clinton and her supporters. So, again, thanks for fighting the good fight! :)

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Don't you think you're attack of McCaskill is kind of sexist? Is that ok as long as you're a woman?
I've been attacked up and down these threads as being brain-washed, sellout and following the boys because I like Obama. None of the women here supporting HRC and crying sexism all day and night seem to see any irony in their attacks on women for not voting their gender. I find it disgusting and insulting and I’m getting really tired of the hypocrisy.
Please think before you make sexist digs at women just because they don’t make the same choice as you.

re: Rufus
[Read the article: McCain campaign baits Obama on Clinton slurs]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I generally scroll by - I was wondering why he came after me as a Nazi and a Fascist. I was also hoping to make the point that his ranting and name calling is out of synch with the campaign he supports which I think is damaging to the cause. But I regret having engaged him. I’ve been coming back to the thread to see if any of the convo from yesterday picked up but there’s three pages of his disjointed rantings in the way so c’est la vie.
I'll probably regret this post too.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]"They're already talking about "punishment " for Hillary and her backers, including denying them government positions."
Who is saying that?

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Just made me barf.
So now self deprecating humor is off limits too?
Would it be ok if a man said it?
I still don't get how it is so feminist to go around beating up on women who disagree with you on their candidate. Is this a new, conditional feminism?

@ AKA
[Read the article: Quotes of the day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I don't know where you're getting that McCaskill is not a feminist. Here positions and voting record are available: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claire_McCaskill
You can't dismiss someone as a not feminist just because they say something you disagree with. Well, you can dismiss her but that doesn’t mean a thing about her – it does reflect poorly on you though.
Hey you don’t think her line was funny, I did. Does it matter? Not a whit really but there was still nothing wrong with what she said even if you can’t see the humor in it.
And obviously I don’t believe that if you think feminism means that women never get criticized. I do however, believe that feminism means you don’t engage in misogynistic attacks on other women - whether they are feminist or not! I’ve been and will keep making this argument.
