Thanks for your reply. But help me out here- you said see below in your post - but didn't include any examples.

I agree there have been a lot of angry things said- most of what I have seen has been here and a lot fomented by Joan Walsh- who I respect a great deal - so I am doubly confounded by her insistence that the BO campaign is gender-baiting. I don't think that is true and I don't think it serves us as women and as feminists.

To flip HRCs argument around – how would she be able to stand up to McCain in the general if she can’t take the heat now? Why can’t she close the deal?

I’ve seen lots of real issues brought up by the BO side and disagreements. I’ve seen a lot of argument on HRC side basically consisting of ‘he is unelectable’ even as he keeps winning contests.

I’m curious about one phenomenon though- both HC and BO supporters seem to feel like they have much more reason to feel aggrieved. I think that has something to do with a sting hurting a lot more than the amount of satisfaction one gets from stinging someone else.

That said, I am not seeing evidence of sexism from Obama’s campaign. I think he had enough to handle defending his former minister and church – from the right and left flank – until they flogged that one to death that I doubt he would have had the time to respond to some dumb thing Chris Matthews or some other pundit obsessed with personally politics said that was unfair to HRC. He has responded when people in his own campaign have said things (I think he should have held onto Samantha Powers because she is brilliant, ‘monster’ is not a terrible thing to say about your hawkish opponent who constantly compares you unfavorably to the other parties candidate.)

I think we’re generally in agreement. But I’d really like to see some examples of inappropriate behavior on the Obama campaign on this subject if you insist on making that claim. I also think you should go over to Obama’s campaign website and check out the video under >people>women. I did recently as I was feeling a little insecure being constantly accused of being a feminist traitor so I wanted to make sure the specifics match up with the overall tone and substance of the campaign and they do. I was impressed in the longer video address about his specific policy points on daycare, elder care, family leave, sick time, etc. Seriously, check it out.

Absolutely right on. I’m getting a little nervous of the lasting implications of this race if HRC supporters keep pulling the gender card. Rather than looking at HRC’s divisive, ugly campaign blame it all on the big bully guys.

What does this mean for the prospects of a woman running in the future?

Of course a historic race like this one will bring out all of the haters – racists and misogynist alike. And if Clinton had handled it differently I would say maybe we’re lucky to be confronting this all at once- since we need to. Maybe we’re still lucky to put this all out in front at once. But I wish Clinton had run a different campaign. Could she honestly be surprised? Why didn’t she have a plan?

If she irreparably harmed Obama (I don’t think she did) we’ll definitely be drawing all of the wrong conclusions. And electability will continue to mean mid-western or southern white male and the DLC will own the party for another generation.

I followed your link and that is one of the creepiest things I've ever read!

She can't be for real though. How about a campaign of the cold shoulder to Proud Tex ? Maybe she’ll go back under her bridge. (Might also help test my hypothesis that she and Shawn are one and the same.)

Thanks for the clarification on that. Don’t you think the article merits an update on that point then? I just re-read and the connection between ideas and your framing of the post with John McCain playing nicer than Obama (yeah, right!) strongly implies that that is your argument.

  • Thanks Delores!

    That is hillarious!

However, I shudder to think what kind of change the GOP thinks we deserve.....

I know, right? What is up with these variations on the same campaign slogan?

    Pretty uninspired.

Ans what the hell is up with Rufus?

    What are you on?

I was just wondering why you came after me for thanking Joan. She replied diretly to something I asked directly - and many others brought up - so I thought a thank you was in order.

Is that so wrong? And now are you really calling me a nazi for it?
