Depriving the supers of FL and MI of their votes at the convention seems like a sensible solution to a thorny problem. It punishes the people in charge of breaking the party rules without disenfranchising the popular vote.

There remains the problem of how you divvy up the pledged delegates fairly but some deal like the %69/59 split (probably more compromise needed in terms of numbers there) could work.

And since I missed the Veep Stakes discussion by a couple of days - and it is still relevant here- I'm really loving the idea of Obama running with Kathleen Sebelius. Don't you think she is someone Clinton could get behind while saving face? A woman with a lot to bring to the ticket - western state- two term governor who has the exec experiences both senators lack.

Her endorsement speech is interesting for the perspective it brings (she was convinced by her sons). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nHp90Z2NJk

They seem temperamentally simpatico and though its only quick hug seem to have a chemistry I can't see developing between Obama and Clinton if they shared a ticket after the rancorous primary.

I'm totally with you on what you are talking about regarding sexism- being vigilant to call it out because it is the right to do and it is prudent.

It bothers me when I see it in the forums but I don't particularly see it from the Obama campaign.

What Ted Kennedy said it true, maybe he should have not said it, but it stings because it is true. (And it doesn't sound sexist to me- don't have the whole context- but that bit about not being in tune with higher aspirations rings true at this point.)

I think we need to balance the approach with sensitivity. A bunch of folks, I think including you two, weeping for brunhilde (please forgive if I misspelled that friend!), as well as Aj Calhoun (the last respectable republican) and others, have been engaged in conversations making amazing points about just those things.

If we treat each other with respect and empathy and recognize we have the same goal in mind we're doing great.

What we do need to get out of is the gutter politics, the high school drama of name-calling and demanded apologies and take for granted that a bit of personality is part of the game and move on. I think we need to toughen up and be ready to brush off crap off and head into the general election.

One of my favorite things about Obama is his handling of this attacks frankly. I don't see him handling it in the usual ways we have - over adjusting to focus grouping (Gore) stoically standing by (Kerry), trowing your own mud (Hillary Clinton.) Some people see aloof and condescending, I see cool, in control and getting a little more by expecting a little more from people.

I love Sebelius for VP - so far my favorite from the short list.

I agree to- I don't see anything wrong with it. Not sure why Emanuel gave Kennedy a smack down.

Isn't it funny that the article begins: "Ted Kennedy, the aging liberal lion of the Democratic Party".

    Thanks again.

I've been following this column since last night and I'm still perplexed.

Do you think Ted Kennedy's remarks that you cited about Clinton are sexist? Or merely unhelpful to the campaign?

I think crying sexist at every criticism diminishes us all, especially women. I really do mean this, and I hope you're reading this Joan. You are hurting the cause of feminism and progressive politics when you react to every negative statement as though it is misogyny when it is merely politics.

Were there some nasty things said? Sure, mostly by the media, some in forums here. Did you presume a woman – or any other non-white male candidate- was going to stroll into the oval office without some pushback? That doesn’t excuse it – but I am appalled at the manner in which many women have reacted- in such scandalized and victimized way. There will be a woman president someday but you are not helping to hasten that by showing you can’t stand up to or ignore ridiculous off topic insults and move on. For the love of god, there are many legitimate policy beefs and complaints about the dirty campaign Clinton has run that have absolutely nothing to do with gender. Are we not allowed to talk about that for fear of hurting her feelings?

So, why are we talking about Hillary's campaign anymore? Besides the few McCain trolls (Shawn/ProudTex - same person I think- and Katetex) What does it have to do with anything?

Rasmussen pollsters are shutting down their primary operations:

There are rumors that Wolfson, her chief media guy is trying to shop a book about the campaign.

The wheels have come off. Its time to start looking towards the general. It is going to get ugly with the GOP as it always does. Let’s be prepared to fight those accusations that need to be answered and blow off the stupid shit. I’m pretty confident Obama can tell the difference I just hope the rest of the party starts to get it.
