  • The courts are the last refuge

[Read the article: Congress votes to immunize lawbreaking telecoms, legalize warrantless eavesdropping]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

This 'law' is completely un-Constitutional, and it shall be declared so by every court that sees a case on it--

--unless Bush appoints ONE MORE SCOTUS Justice.

This is the razor's edge we all trod upon, people. And, before you all lose your fucking minds, Obama People pointing accusatory fingers at Hillary People and vice versa...there have been times in the history of this great country that the gubmint has gone too far. We do, after all, live in an all-but-named empire.

But America righted itself, more or less, into a 'more' perfect union, again and again. They are evil and ultimately interesting times we live in. But this too shall pass.

In the meantime, I'm giving both my Senators an earful. And Obama gets no money from me--but he will get my vote, some time volunteering, and a sharp jab in the ass with a pointy stick for NOT stopping this.

  • Anyone who claims Rush Limbaugh was right

[Read the article: Rush Limbaugh was right]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

...even ironically, is not worth reading.

Kamiya, why do you hate America so much?

  • The worst is yet to come

[Read the article: The motivation for blocking investigations into Bush lawbreaking]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The worst Bush crimes are the ones yet to be revealed.

The Man-Child is on my radio right now, trying to sound convincing and Presidential. God help us.

  • Illegal contraception

[Read the article: Bush: Birth control = abortion]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

That's been the plan since Day One.

Soon, it'll be illegal to even mention condoms in a newspaper article--just like Depression Ireland, in "Angela's Ashes". Another world.

And Ashcroft's Kingdom of Christ will come to Earth! Women pregnant and barefoot, brown people subdued and/or in prison, science crushed, Inquisitions galore...no wonder they're so anxious to control us all. They're in for a wonderful time!

  • Not a PERMANENT holiday, right?

    [Read the article: Broadsheet, out]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

God forbid. You're one of the select columns/reports I read on a regular basis. Women's issues are important, and you nearly always pick the best ones to spotlight.

    More, please!

  • There is no political harmony

[Read the article: Political harmony v. the rule of law: an easy choice for the political establishment]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It is a dysfunctional and valueless idea to begin with...

Reid and Pelosi are enablers of the drunken-with-power Bush administration. The hangover comes for Obama in January. If they let him live that long.

  • Been saying it for years now

[Read the article: Political harmony v. the rule of law: an easy choice for the political establishment]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Bush will pardon himself. Or else Cheney did it when Bush underwent his colonoscopy (how PERFECTLY fitting THAT would be), and now holds the pardons in his man-sized White House safe.

Cheney probably holds ALL the pardons in his safe--the telecom companies', Democrats', Republicans'...

It's the darkest yet most sensible explanation ever.

  • Lieberman

[Read the article: The honorable centrist Joe Lieberman]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

If only Al Gore hadn't elevated this political hack to the rarefied status of a national figure...

I'd be much happier with Vice President Lieberman safely ensconced in a bucket of warm spit under President Gore than the way things turned out.

  • Irina99

[Read the article: The honorable centrist Joe Lieberman]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

After the last eight years, I am barely a Christian. I can't go to church any more. I can't stand anyone who is stupid enough to disregard Christ's direct commands to NOT show off in public, to NOT loudly display your religion on your sleeve, your car, in your diatribes, etc.

I think I know exactly how you feel...

But your case is different than mine. You were born Jewish. For a snake like Lieberman to live his hypocrisy in the front pages every day doesn't mean you have to be ashamed of your ancestry. Faghetaboutit, aayy.

These are interesting times we live in. But not much different than the McCarthy Era. Eventually, there will be as many statues and memorials of our 'leaders' today, like Kit "I Voted For Torture, and Against The Fourth Amendment!" Bond, as there are of Joe McCarthy himself: rare, hard to find, and covered with piss stains.

  • McCain? Dodging questions about his flip-flopping on Iraq?

[Read the article: McCain dodging questions on surge timeline?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    No one could have predicted!

  • Has anyone mentioned the obvious about your title to this article?

[Read the article: No, let sleeping "Blue Dogs" lie]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

These 'Blue Dogs' ain't sleepin', Ed. They're wide awake and chewing up the Constitution.

They are RINOs. They vote with the Republicans, they stand with them, they HAVE to--to get elected. Like Kos sez, we need more and BETTER Democrats.

We'll get 'em. Meanwhile, Ed just earned his paycheck. This 'debate' reminds me a bit too much of the coming election--a savior, and a sacrificial lamb.

  • The main reason Congress's approval ratings are lower than Bush's

[Read the article: Things I learned today about democracy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    The Blue Dogs.

The Democrats have not done the job America sent them to Congress to do, because of the Blue Dogs and their refusal to vote with the leadership--and the leadership's refusal to PUNISH them for their refusal to vote in solidarity.

They will pay. They should pay. It's called democracy, and the fact that an excellent writer such as Glenn Greenwald happens to be the only person pointing this out is a crime, in and of itself.

Fuck 'em, Glenn. They're history, if we have anything to say about it.

  • Tyranny is alive and well in the U.S.

[Read the article: Those privacy-hating Chinese communist tyrants]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

And any other examples of tyranny only stand to remind Brownback that there are reaches of the globe where HIS power does not reach.

And nothing drives a control-freak Republican bonkers as much as any reminders of THAT.

  • Bush folded on Iran for the same reason he gave North Korea everything they wanted

[Read the article: Why Bush folded on Iran]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

He's a punk. And, as Karl Rove will tell you (when he's NOT under oath), it's all about politics and has NOTHING to do with the country.

Oh, and no-bid contracts to cronies and oil companies, too, of course. Blackwater, anyone?

  • Bush's unconstitutional laws? Found unconstitutional?

[Read the article: A federal court rejects Bush's "executive privilege" claims]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    No one could have predicted!

  • Still waiting

[Read the article: A federal court rejects Bush's "executive privilege" claims]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

...for our long national nightmare to come to an end. If nothing else, the Bush administration has taught us all patience. And that old adage about absolute power, too.

  • Since I spend each online day reading the liberal blogosphere

[Read the article: Vote Both shutting down]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

...I never heard of this group until now, after they've closed up shop. I don't want to hear any more about how 'biased' the rightwing corporate media is--not after this experience.

I urged Kerry to pick the one person who could help him most--Edwards. Since he lost, I guess Obama isn't interested in picking the one person who could help HIM the most--Hillary.

He'll get elected anyway, but the margin of victory will be a lot less comfortable. He has my vote, either way.
