Why do we need vehicles that are capable of 100 mph on our roads? Even a Prius will go that fast.
Your average cheap small car today will blow a '67 Mustang right off the road.
My first car had a 70 hp engine and I thought it was very fast. Now we have Volvos with well over 200 hp.
Why?
Pull out your DVD of All The President's Men and watch it again. Or maybe not, it's just so painful to see how far we've fallen.
Nobody in Washington can remember anything from more than six months ago, and they seem genuinely surprised that anyone else can.
I said this on Alternet, too, but it bears repeating here:
Ron Paul is a very scary crypto-anarchist. His vision is one of 50 little tyrannical states, each with its own peculiar form of oppression, while the federal government fades into meaninglessness. Some state will suffer a natural disaster and all the other states will tell it to pound sand and deal with its own problems. It's anarchy, I tell you.
"Naturally occurring" doesn't mean it's safe. Poison ivy is naturally occurring, nobody advocates using it in any food.
"They've been doing it for a long time" applies equally well to lead pipes and blood-letting.
Regardless of the validity of your statements, your reasoning is not valid.
I said that your statement was correct, but your bogus argument does nothing to advance your statement? Wouldn't I be pissed off because your bogus argument does nothing to advance the validity of your statement? Sulfites ARE naturally occurring and I don't see the harm in consuming the minute amounts present in wine, but if you argue your point in a stupid manner, then you work against yourself by opening the argument up to more nonsensical stupidity by those hippies who think that everything manufactured is bad and everything "natural" is good.
or something like that.
You ignorant campaigners should LEARN TO READ and LEAVE PEOPLE ALONE when there's a sign on the door that says NO SOLICITING. This means you!
I live in Concord, NH and the idiots just won't go away. If you knock on my door I will make a point of NOT voting for your candidate.
Ron Paul is the logical next step: fascism followed by anarchy. After that we'll be the American Colonies of China.
Your argument is true for every technology gadget ever made, at every moment in time. Don't ever buy anything, ever.
The best argument I've heard is to delay all tech purchases until the last possible moment when you really can't do without, allowing for the necessary time to get it operating. You will ALWAYS regret EVERY tech purchase as having paid too much, too soon. At least if you approach it rationally, you can live with your decision later.
This is a great reason to not give tech gear as presents: why saddle someone you love with something that they will have to deal with on an extended basis? Oh, gee, thanks for this stupid widget that will cost me a small fortune and lock me into a long term contract. I'll take coal instead.
I'd rather watch someone else's house depreciate in value. If home prices fall 5% in a year, that means that a whole year's mortgage payments just went down the toilet.
MIT students have had the option to take classes at Wellesley for years. It's kind of a drag to take the T all the way out to Newton for one class, so I never did it. I had friends who did, though, and they universally enjoyed it.
Not every rental is an apartment.
The dirt in the back yard will not be there to help you when you get old. What you've saved by not throwing good money after bad in a falling market WILL be there. Hey, if you aren't all that attached to your money, I'd be only too glad to take that useless stuff off your hands.
That you're going to find another one if he doesn't get rid of the offensive magazines in the waiting area.
He has no more legal business hanging, so now the Congress can subpoena him and grant him immunity (he's not going to get punished anyway) to force him to testify.
If the author of this piece provided links to the things that he is talking about so that others can engage him in reasonable discourse without the typical reply from the author of: "well, I actually read the docuement, and apparently you didn't."
SB should learn that apples can be stored for months and months. You can get local apples just about year-round.
Economies of scale are bigger than most people think. The modern grocery distribution system is REMARKABLY efficient. The food "manufacturers" are taking all the profits so everyone else in the chain has to scrimp and scrape just to make ends meet. Modern grocery warehouses are models of efficiency and just about any other industry could learn a lot about cutting costs by studying them. They use humongous football-field sized freezers, three stories tall, that are hundreds of times more efficient than the tiny little freezers in people's homes.
We could cut transportation costs even further by not being so damned picky. McDonalds only uses one kind of potato for their fries because that's what people expect. They ship this type of potato everywhere on the planet instead of using local crops. Entire crops of apples are wasted due to hail early in the season that leaves little spots on the apples that do not affect quality or taste, just because people turn up their noses at less-than-perfect produce. I could go on and on.
Ironic how we celebrate our Independence Day with a Chinese invention.
He could have watched the Doug Feith interview as preparation.
Anyone who says that they are unprepared to be ambushed by Stewart is just pretending to be naive.
