  • Got a question about the "gender-based crimes during war" concept

[Read the article: "Hideous and pandemic proportions"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Does that include, say, using only boys as child soldiers in Sierra Leone?

Or massacring only men in Srebrenica?

    Or do those not count?

Because if only girls were used as child-soldiers, I'm sure no one here would hesitate to add it to the list of "gender-based crimes". Am I right?

I mean, I know it's customary in feminist circles to equate one female death with 100,000 male deaths, but can someone spell-out why "gender" is a euphamism for "women only" as if only women are gendered organisms?

PS- And I don't care what you say: Pauline Nyiramasuhuko and Biljana Plavsic weren't war criminals guilty of genocide. Surely, Teh Patriarchy made them do it.

  • Thank you Broadsheet

For showing me time and time again that it's not a crude form of sexism to be obsessed with the well-being of one's own sex while continuously dehumanizing the other sex.

  • Well, thank you Anon

Oh, by the way- since all of us Broadsheeters are so up on the issue of "dating violence" I surely this recent new item will make the rounds on feminist blogs?

    http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/h2007/10/24/ woman_stabs_ex_boyfriend_7_times_says_prosecutor/

Why, it seems that the perp even went to Wellesley College. Surely that is of some small interest to those of us who may have even gone there? Gee, and I remember how Broadsheet was so VERY interested in telling us how the Virginia Tech massacre began as an incident of dating violence... Hmm...

Why, it's almost as if vagina-bearing perpetrators are held to a wholly different standard by those who talk about "Equality" all the time.

Well, I'm sure this failure to take notice of Anna Tang's vicious stabbing attack is just a fluke of Broadsheet, in no way related to the female chauvinism predominating here which is denied at all costs.

And I wonder... Had a male MIT student sent his ex-gf threatening emails, then broken into a Wellesley dorm and stabbed his ex 7 times as she slept, would we have seen SOME small level of interest on this blog? So many questions...

  • Giving credit when credit is due

I probably wouldn't have been so critical if these kinds of entries were more commonplace. If people don't take women's violence seriously, it's another manifestation of not taking women seriously.

    Carol, good job today.

  • Interesting non-scientific study

[Read the article: Working fathers of the world unite!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

What I do find interesting, though, is that 37 percent of the dads say they'd leave their jobs if their spouse or partner made enough to support the family...

Statistically speaking, not many of us want to marry such a man. To be "eligible," a man must earn more than we do... we're also allowed to complain about not being the primary breadwinner.

    Cute little trick, isn't it?

  • Hold on a sec...

Let me get this straight: are you suggesting that women's violence isn't taken very seriously?

    Surely, you jest!

  • Why, this is clearly another case of...

[Read the article: "30 Reasons Girls Should Call It a Night"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

...SLUT-SHAMING! Trying to SHAME women for insufficient ladylike behavior! Trying to SHAME us for enjoying a party-hearty lifestyle!

This blatant, flagrant SLUT-SHAMING WILL NOT STAND!

  • @Immanuel

[Read the article: "30 Reasons Girls Should Call It a Night"]

I still don't understand how feminists can be upset with this behavior one moment, and then claim other people are slut shaming when they discuss it themselves

How can they? Easy. They'll do it the same way feminists can accuse men of not doing enough child-care one minute, then in the next minute accuse men of being too violent to be trusted around children anyway.

The same way they can talk about all-important "choice" about one's own body one minute, then in the next minute pooh-pooh as brainwashed saps the women who choose cosmetic surgery.

The same way they can demand equal rights one minute, then in the next minute demand that violent women not be punished as harshly as men should be.

It's a fascinating illustration of doublethink every other week with these people. :)

  • Yes, Jim- you don't get it

[Read the article: Quote of the Day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

There should be absolutely NO question whatsoever about the desire of a woman who wants a particular medical procedure done...

But if she wants breast implants or a shot of Botox or a face lift, it's time to totally doubt the authenticity of her desires because she was brainwashed by Teh Patriarchy into having a poor body image.

Get it now, you paternalistic bastard?

  • BY THE WAY, BROADSHEET

[Read the article: A hard Pill to swallow]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'm really sorry that this is off-topic, but I didn't know where else to post this question...

Not long ago, I wondered why the following news item hadn't made the rounds on feminist blogs:

    http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2007/11/07/ex_girlfriend_charged_with_stabbing_mit_student_as_he_slept/

Seeing as how we all have so much concern about dating violence and since there's a connection with Wellesley College, surely there'd be SOME interest about this?

Because if a male MIT student sent threatening emails to his Wellesley ex-girlfriend, broke-in to her dorm and stabbed her 7 times, I have a feeling it would've aroused more than a few maudlin pity-parties for the victim alongside angry denunciations of how Teh Oppressive Patriarchy is the source of all violence.

And yet, not a peep about this case. Why is that? Is dating violence of no interest now? Cat got your tongue?

Or does it not arouse any interest because the perp is the wrong sex?

  • @Julie

You're right, Juliebird. Broadsheet has more profound things to discuss, like Tyra Banks' vulva puppet.

Do you honestly expect me to swallow that BS wouldn't had said anything had Tang been the one stabbed?

  • For the sake of equality...

    [Read the article: Got skirt?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

...we must rake all virtues towards femininity while turning masculinity into the dumping ground for any negative term we can dream-up.

Sounds about par for the course.

  • Speaking of Catholics...

[Read the article: Bless me, Mother ...]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

...didn't the webmistress of Pandagon have a slight problem with her inability to not babble hate-speech about Catholics a few months back?

Yup, "real" feminists hate Catholics and love female Catholic priests.

Much in the same way that they hate the military but love female soliders and hate corporations but love female CEOs.
