I'm visiting the old dump for the first and last time of my life Wed PM...I recall way back when the Convicted Felon faked a concrete structural failure right around the time they were just starting to debate the need for a "new" (i.e., luxury box laden) stadium...It's funny: ever since that concrete fell and the locals said "Yes" to YES, et. al., the Stadium seems to be in pretty good repair...
HELLO NY fans!....Look north about 200 miles to Fenway (I know----it's difficult but bear with me)...the former owner/idiots who declared Fenway structurallly obsolete and incapable of supporting expansion made sure, when they sold, that they held on to front row home plate seats for their limited partners...so John Henry built two more rows in front for HIS partners and sold the rest for roughly $250/game...then he built the Monstah Seats (THE best seat in baseball, bar none), got rid of the "dog track" glass enclosed monstrosity and replaced it with about 4000 more seats complete with exclusive corporate bar and luxuries and then added the Budweiser and Coca Cola corners (I won't say what I think of those lousy Toncy C seats) They are at 37,400 capacity and could easily top 40,000 if they built another grandstand along the right field line (see www.savefenway.com for more infor on how)....they did it with minimal local funds (the previous idiots had foisted approx $85M in subsidies from the glad handing (and ever ticket-receptive) legislature aka the Beacon Hill High School debate club)...Yankee Stadium need not be abandoned after you've barely paid the previous bond issue...this is a case of "Noun-Verb-9/11" Giuliani (and Bloom off the rose Berg) passing out favors to friends at NYC taxpayer expense. In any other business, it would have been RETROFIT...at owner expense.
Here, again, with the "new" "improved" Yankee (Disney) Stadium owned by that exemplar of capitalism, Felon George...profits are privatized and losses/expenses socialized. But this is New York. There's a recent history of this in the City.
... (BTW, my Fenway bleacher seat near the CF camera--$21/game..."priceless"...I'll wave to the Yankee fans during the playoffs!
I finally went to the Stadium last night....found my way there with help from a Sox fan who gave me all the tips of the bus and subway...after being frisked by resolute security guards, and having handed my backback over to some guy at a bowling alley for the $5 bag check fee, I was ready to tour around but guess what? It's more crowded than Fenway and far less fan friendly...you can't cut across center field but must negotiate an incredibly narrow concourse that must provide for fully twice the fans at the Fens...when you finally arrive at the seat, it's really a folding chair...when you sit down you begin to smell the urine, dirt and grime that cause you to become physcially ill. The only charm the place has is monument park but the good Yankee management decided to close it to the public...on TV it looks OK...in person it is falling apart with signs of decay everywhere. The lighting is terrible...the prices outrageous, but there's everyone paying homage to the new stadium across the street...Steinbrenner's excess, brought to him by two bedazzled Mayors who happen to love baseball (they should have offered Donald the naming rights for a hefty fee: it would have been the first time Trump helped any little guy...In the new Yankee Stadium the working guy gets stiffed with higher prices while George the Felon gets his new luxury boxes on the taxpayer's dime. The old place could have easily been salvaged with excellent oppurtunities for luxuries...but it isn't new and sparkly. George, after all, has to get his way. After staging a fake concrete beam failure, he stepped aside while all the city lackies did his (and Selig's) bidding...how sad that this baseball palace was allowed to deteriorate (I can assure you ESPN won't be doing close-ups of the deterioration).. If anyone wants to see how ballpark renovation is done, just visit Fenway. I'll be there twice this next week...once just to wish the Yanks a splendid off season on the links. And to all you front-running Yank fans out there, enjoy the last few games...I'll wave from my playoff seats!
The Clintons should be helping out..they've taken a dive. They're waiting for 2012...they will, again, miscalculate!
I cannot believe this happened. She's totally self-absorbed and was lucky she didn't get booed off the stage by the "other Americans" in that "city" audience that she clearly thinks is unAmerican...and yes she is clueless because of her absolute vanity...SNL skewered her right to her face...and you need not write anything at all as she writes her own mocking lines every time she opens her mouth with engaging her brain, which is usually the case. I am glad Tina didn't show up as I take that as her personal protest against this clownette. I only wish they'd had her friend from the Alaskan Independence Party spewing his anti-American rants for all to hear. She's pathetic and McCain's bargain with the wing-nut devils will stain his political career and legacy.
