Original article: This Modern World

As so often happens these days...

it would be funny if it wasn't so damn true.

Just this evening, I see on CNN that Cheney has himself admitted that there was no link between Saddam Hussein and 9-11. This coming from a man who used every lie, trick, and cherry picking of information to drive us into an enormously costly and COMPLETELY unnecessary war. We killed 1 million people...for what?

Equally disgusting is the spineless way Congress, and our apparently equally spineless new President have treated all of these revelations. Disgusting. Disgusting. Disgusting.

Sad to know that even if a high-level "elected" official shot a child on the steps of the capitol, with cameras rolling, they would be dismissed, excused and never spend ten minutes inside of a jail cell.

Apparently, in the United States, equality under the law is just a lie.

Well...

"You have to ask what is their purpose for being so adamant about the photos, since we have already provided the information to them -- minus the photographs."

Because, We the People have been lied to, obfuscated, mis-directed, told half-truths, had the truth buried for so long, that anything less than the full and complete facts and truth will naturally be taken with a giant grain of salt.

"You just have trust sometimes."

Not after the last eight years, we don't. In fact, we shouldn't.

Not as though they couldn't see it coming

For years and years, American consumers have been demanding low mileage, greener vehicles. We've wanted cars that got more miles to the gallon, and wanted cars that were better for the environment.

And what did we get? The Hummer. The Excursion. A re-launch of the Mustang. A post 9-11 glut of single-driver SUV's- the last thing we needed.

It's not as though GM couldn't see this coming. Japan has been cleaning our clocks in respect to the auto for over a decade. But as it seems with most things in this country- we have to run something into the ground instead of having the foresight to make changes which could correct a disastrous course.

So I ask- what is more painful? Making changes that are slightly uncomfortable in the short run, but ensure long term viability? Or "staying the course" (even if it's dead wrong) until things collapse around our ears?

This is what happens when people cannot grasp complex thoughts

For the past thirty years (and especially the past eight) Conservatives have viewed the world- both domestically and internationally- in stark black and white terms. They are completely incapable of subtlety, nuance, and detailed understanding of issues which- in the real world- are rarely black and white.

So what else can they do but trot out the tired lies of "Obama is a Muslim!" or suggest that in reaching out to the Arab world, President Obama is doing nothing less than inviting an invasion of America by "Islamo-Fascists" who will "take over and kill Americans and convert us all to Islam"?

They don't see that engaging other nations in dialogue and attempting to build a consensus works much, much better than ignorance, flaming rhetoric, and blazing guns.

Rational and nuanced responses are lost to them. It would be pitiable, had their "understanding" of the world not cost hundreds of thousands of lives in Iraq.

Geenius at Wrok

Completely true.

Most of the jobs out there right now would be awesome- if I were still 17 years old, in high school, and living with my parents. Otherwise, not so much. It's insane that there are so many jobs that pay so little, that I would actually "make" more by staying on unemployment.

As for the jobs that are good and legitimate, the competition is overwhelming. I was on an interview last month for a job- the woman conducting the interview told me offhandedly that the interview pool of 15 was cut down...from 400.

Scary, scary times. I hope things start turning around, and quick.

Couldn't agree more.

The majority of Americans have been aching for genuine progressive change in this country for nearly a decade. And when we get our chance, it's nothing but watered down moderation. I'm extremely irked that our choices in this country more and more seem to be "hard right" and "center right".

Original article: Rush Limbaugh's new low

Maybe he's back on the nerve pills?

After all, he's a known and admitted drug addict, maybe he's slipped back off of the wagon?

Limbaugh is just disgusting beyond words. How anyone could reach the conclusion that reaching out and creating a dialogue with the wider Muslim world equals a terrorist attack that killed over 3,000 people is just beyond me.

Obama's actions WILL make us safer. It is imperative, after the Bush/Cheney cowboy antics fucked up our status in the entire world, that Obama refresh our dialogue with all nations, not just our allies.

As I've posted recently- Conservatives are incapable of seeing any developments in anything but stark black and white terms. To their backwards, simple minds all Muslims are al-Qaida, and any outreach to the wider Muslim world (which includes over 1 BILLION people, btw) is nothing less than treason.

These people are so pathetically stupid, it's astounding.

Also part of the reason for the auto industry problems

The high costs that the "Big 3" have had to shoulder are also in part due to higher insurance rates for workers. Compare that to an auto manufacturing company like Japan- where health care is a human right and covered in a national plan.

This news is unsurprising but still sickening. What better evidence do the "powers that be" need that our healthcare system in this country is an absolute disgrace? I am sick and tired of the insurance executives and our greedy politicians getting rich off of the suffering and death of millions.
