The first paragraph of Mr. Walken's response says it all- the GOP and Republicans are pro-technology and pro-science only if the discoveries made therein can be used in a militaristic way. This undercuts the very purpose of scientific discovery- to increase the bank of human knowledge and understanding, and to use such discoveries to improve human life and living standards through medicine and technology. It is, I am certain, the reason that most scientists enter their respective fields. They do not do so out of the desire to harm. Unfortunately, with our governments perpetual hard-on for reckless military spending and adventurism, the majority of the r+d dollars are defense department dollars.
Further, the Bush administration's handling of the Department of Energy was to do nothing more than pack it full of pro-oil idealogues who buried or halted the release of factual scientific data which proves climate change.
To present the argument that the Bush administration was pro-science, but placed in a poor light by a "liberal media" (what else could those quotes at the end be?) is extremely disingenuous. The record of the Republican party stands- they deny global warming, they are against open stem cell research based upon religious ideology, they refuse at every turn to promote national healthcare initiatives which would result in an overwhelmingly healthier society, they refuse comprehensive sex education, and refused to allow AIDS initiatives to take place in Africa unless their pet failure - abstinence only- was part of the program.
No, conservatives have been extremely anti-science for decades, unless you could use it to kill thousands upon thousands of people.
And Mr. Walken, global warming is a FACT- study after study supports this and denial of these facts does not mitigate the extreme life changes we will have to collectively undergo because of it. To paraphrase a personal hero of mine, Dr. Carl Sagan, "Science is true whether I believe in it or not."
You might not like it, but there it is.
Cheney's comments and frequent media pop-ups are nothing more than a grasping at straws attempt to stay relevant by a reviled man sliding into obscurity. Times have changed, and no one gives a fuck about Dick Cheney or what he thinks.
Cheney has no love of his country, if he did, why would he have spent the last eight years trying to dismantle everything it stood for?
"He is not a torture freak." Actually, Rush, he is. He's a psychopath. He's a twisted ideological freak of the worst kind. Just like you.
Oh, wait...
I'd like to see John Yoo's testicles crushed live on national television.
Nice to know, that in regard to torture cover-ups, the "Change" we were promised is nothing but more of the same.
I'm revolted beyond belief that the Obama administration continues to allow the perpetrators of torture to escape without legal punishment.
Perhaps the President doesn't realize this, but the vast majority of Americans are disgusted and ashamed that we tortured people. We want the evidence to come to light because THIS MUST NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN.
If we are to have any credibility in regard to the rule of law, we must enforce the law. Too often in our nation's history we chose to "look forward and not backward" and as a result, the atrocities some Americans committed went unpunished, and the same atrocities were repeated again.
Racism? Maybe there was, maybe there wasn't - but her best point went completely unacknowledged- where were all of these protesters for the past eight years, when Bush went on a reckless spending spree?
Both O'Reilly and Hannity focused on her comments about racism to the exclusion of her valid point- these protesters were completely mum when Bush was spending our country off of a cliff.
Hannity mentioned that the budget for this year was "four times what it was in 2008". But, of course, completely failed to mention why- Obama has actually included the costs of the Iraq war in the budget, instead of leaving it off the books as it was done under Bush. Of course, I don't expect him to mention this, as is undercuts the right wing myth that Obama is spending recklessly.
Why are "liberals" so mad? I'll tell you why Mr. Jenkins- You and your ilk fucked up our country beyond belief and now we have to spend enormous amounts of resources cleaning up your messes, as opposed to addressing other issues. That's why.
Hannity, as usual, was nothing but a blowhard. Notice how many mentions of Garofalo's "bitterness" were raised by Griff Jenkins? And how "anti-family" she is? This man is nothing more than a cardboard cutout of a stereotypical Republican. Had he never been to a comedy show before? OH, and Garofalo lies down with DOGS!!!
I'm hoping that someday people like this will reach adulthood, but I'm not holding my breath.
I hear what you're saying- but if what you're saying is really the case, where were the "teabag" type protests during the years 2002-2008?
What.
The.
FUCK.
How is it possible for someone to be so blatantly homophobic, without any retort from the media? In my mind, and the minds of MANY others words like "dyke" and "faggot" are no different than the N-word or any other racial slur.
What a fucking homophobic asshole.
Regardless whether or not the torture we committed was effective- it's still fucking ILLEGAL!!!
