So basically, there's no education in Texas

in regard to sexuality. Sorry, but scare tactics and lies do not count as sex-ed they only count as propaganda.

This reminds me a lot of the "sex-ed" I received in junior high. Short on facts, short on scientific information, short on medical information- but chock full of "saving yourself" for marriage, close up photographs of STD infections and outright lies about the failure rates of condoms and birth control, and how "the AIDS virus is so small it can actually go through the walls of a condom." (Seriously, this is a quote from my 7th grade health teacher).

But scared citizens, teachers and "concerned" parents cling to abstinence only propaganda with a death grip- despite the fact that study after study shows that it doesn't work.

It does crack me up that sex can "result in poverty, heartache, disease, and even DEATH". Jeepers! It's a wonder that people have sex at all these days, with it being such a risk!!! Don't these people realize that poverty occurs when young women don't have information, and are forced into single motherhood? Don't they know that disease can be prevented with rational, scientific and TRUTHFUL information? Don't they know that "heartache" is part of life, and when we remove the bizarre stigma we place on sex, the "heartache" tends to go away?

Can this country please grow up already and realize that sexuality is NORMAL and completely natural? It's embarrassing to me that a large swath of our educators and politicians view sex and sexuality like a bunch of fourth graders on a playground.

If only he could resign and take the entire organization with him

Dobson is nothing more than a bigot with designs on a theocracy. I lived in the state of Colorado for 26 years, and I saw groups like Focus on the Family turn a state with a live and let live attitude into one full of vehement hatemongers.

It disgusts me to no end that people like Dobson and his ilk have been able to wield political power over the past decades, and yet weasel out of having to pay taxes, or apologize at all for their hateful, damaging rhetoric under the auspices of being a religious organization.

I know that Dobson's retirement does not end the influence or presence of christian fundamentalists in our country. But I am hopeful that we are entering an era where they will finally be recognized by the majority of Americans for the insane extremists that they truly are.

Original article: The shame of Michael Steele

Spineless

It undercuts Steele's assertion that Limbaugh is not the head of the GOP when the actual head of the GOP has to grovel and scrape when he offends him.

Personally, I think this is hilarious poetic justice. The most powerful Republican in America is a egotistical gasbag ranting on AM radio. And the GOP knows this. They have to kiss Limbaugh's ass because he's the only one keeping their base fired up with his nonsensical rhetoric about "socialism" and hoping Obama fails. Without Limbaugh, the Republican base might start waking up to the reality we're all in and realize that the GOP's positions are nothing but a house of cards built upon empty rhetoric.

Personally, I think Limbaugh is a corrupt, hypocritical dirtbag- And I'm not apologizing.

"is it because carville is trying to turn America into a one-party country and ultimately into a dictatorship?"

Actually, that was Bush. And Cheney. And it's the Republican party- at least it has been for the last eight years.

Nice psychologial projection though.

Original article: Jon Stewart takes down CNBC

Brilliant as always!

Jon Stewart and the Daily Show have consistently been not only a great source for humor, but of information as well. It's pretty ironic that a comedy show has less spin and more facts than Fox News, or as shown here, CNBC.

Stewart's handling of the situation is humorous, but the situation itself is infuriating. Our entire nation was led down the primrose path by "experts" who were talking out of their collective asses. How is it that they still have jobs? How is it that they still have television shows? And WHY is it that anyone listens to a damn thing they've all said?

Stewart's closing was a perfect echo of everything I've felt about this - "F*$& You!" - to all of the smug, greedy bastards who stabbed us all in the back, took our wallets, and left us in the gutter to die.

I was at the Times Square store over the weekend

and it looked like a tornado had gone through there. Economically speaking, I guess it had.

I'll miss the Virgin Megastores here because of their sales on DVDs. (The sales were great, but their regular prices were often outrageous- $25 for The Dark Knight? Come on.) But there are still a treasure trove of awesome independent music and media stores here in the city. Mostly though I feel badly for the workers in the stores who have to man the registers knowing that they'll all be out of a job in a short time.

These closings are definitely strong (and negative) indicators of the economy we find ourselves in but I think they are also an indication how our access of media and entertainment is changing. As the CD overtook the record, the internet is doing away with big box music retailers. The same way Netflix is doing away with Blockbuster.
