And another thing

I'm tired of bigots couching their anti-gay arguments in faux concern.

The condescending tone that people get when they oppose homosexual behavior because they're "concerned" about the health risks, or want to "save" people from a "lifestyle choice".

If you aren't taking part in homosexual behavior, why do you care so much about what consenting adults do in their own time? Is your insecurity so great that you feel the need to control everything and everyone around you? Not going to happen.

I don't look over your shoulders trying to tell you how to live your life, so do me the same favor- and stay the fuck out of mine.

The protection of your children comes first

If that means no personal contact with your mother because of her alcoholism, so be it. It seems like this behavior is not going to change. She throws tantrums and is malicious regardless. Do you want your children to have contact with that kind of behavior during their upbringing? Even in a limited capacity?

I applaud you for the fact that you were able to break away from destructive cycles and create your own life and have children of your own. You seem to have a good sense of your life. You may feel that you are alone in regard to support from your family for your mother's addiction, but you are not alone- you have your children to care for, and their protection is paramount and overrides any family drama that might be thrown your way.

kufir

So, expert, how do you "express your lust"?

Oh, I forgot. I'm sure that someone as righteous and upright as you has never entertained an act of lust, let alone had a lustful thought!

Are you in 8th Grade?

State your arguments- that's what this forum is for- but you don't have to be juvenile about it.

Bad Idea

No reason to put Clinton on the ticket as VP and destroy any independent or Republican crossover votes Obama would be sure to get with any other VP.

Sorry, but she lost the primary. That's politics.

Monday, June 16, 2008 06:41 AM

Don't forget the crossover votes

from independents, and from Republicans who aren't enamored with McCain. Obama is certain to pull a good amount of votes from those people on the fence, or Republicans who are dissatisfied with the way their party has been going.

Add Clinton to the ticket and you can kiss those votes goodbye. In fact, all of those voters would run screaming into the arms of McCain.

I want to win this election, and I think Obama does too.

These two threads

from these two articles have largely allowed entrenched interests on both sides of the primary to maintain their pissing match.

Guess what, folks - the primary is over!!!

It's time to start pulling together as a party and stop taking cheap shots at each other.

And as for VP- it's Obama's choice to make, not ours.

No Kidding

Most ads show men to be either incompetent bumbling idiots, or they go to the other gender stereotype of men being the tough, rugged, "get things done" type. Most men are neither of these things. And most of the ads where men are portrayed as "the idiot", it takes someone else to "show them" the right way to do things.

It would be nice if advertisers gave the public some credit and realized that all men aren't just beer swilling, bumbling horn dogs.I for one am pretty tired of the "all men are blue collar idiots" trope.

It would be nice if we could be advertised to without giving in to gender stereotyping of both genders. Then again, advertising isn't exactly known for rising above the lowest common denominator.

What I've learned

Unless you're part of the upper management, or a part of the staff who brings in a good amount of business (=$$$) to the company, you're pretty much expendable.

Now, if the violations you are seeing are so egregious that they require addressing, be sure that you're covered before you blow the whistle. This means, you have another job lined up.

There are many times I wanted to be Norma Rae in my life, but I like to eat too. Sometimes you just have to swallow that whistle instead of blowing it. It sucks, but that's life sometimes.

If Obama doesn't pick her for VP - you better watch out!!!

I'm gonna hold my breath and stomp my feet until I turn BLUE!!!

Then I'm going to vote for McCain!!!

Enough already.

"Roger is fun to be with, he's a sharp wit, he'll even joke about himself."

Yeah, the most hilarious part is how he had a direct hand in promoting people and ideologies that have destroyed our country for the past seven and a half years.

Ha ha ha ha ha!

The GOP deserves defeat

After the colossal fuck up they've perpetuated upon the American people for nearly the past eight years, the GOP deserves a very public and humiliating spanking this time around, and to be sent into the woods for the next few election cycles.

Go easy on them? Give me a break! Do you honestly think they would do the same?

And enough with this "once great party" meme. Every Republican president for the past forty years has been a scumbag. Trotting out Abe Lincoln doesn't change that.

But I am powerless.

But we're not. We can simply not give them our money.

Whenever I'm hounded at the checkout, or by any blatant form of purchase coercion (even by overly pushy and blatant advertising) I make the choice not to by the product or shop at the store. I've even set my things on the counter and changed my mind at the register and then walked out.

I don't pretend that I'm some major purchaser, or that the businesses won't get along just fine without me, but if enough of us stand up and say we've had enough, it'll have an effect.

I for one am sick to death of the constant consumerist barrage. What's next? Ad space on tombstones?
