You don't really believe that do you?
He pulled the nation out of The Great Depression, by creating programs that put Americans back to work. That was one of the most brilliant domestic uses of the government in our history. The highway system, the WPA, Hoover Dam, Grand Coulee Dam, all of these things were built by the man you consider a "Socialist Scum Dictator"
He rallied America in the fight against Nazism and the Japanese Empire during World War Two. The collective effort of the American people allowed us to defeat one of the greatest threats the world has ever known.
FDR also used the alliances (hence, Allied Forces) America had made to create our victory in World War Two.
And, sorry, but Stalin never visited the White House. True, he met with FDR at the Potsdam and Yalta conferences (also attended by Churchill) but this was done as a strategic maneuver to defeat Nazi Germany. Neither FDR nor Churchill held Stalin in high regard, but they realized his usefulness in defeating Hitler.
I'm sorry that facts stand in the way of your typical Right-Wingnut attacks.
FDR was one of the greatest Presidents this country has ever had. Contrast that with George W. Bush, whose only talent seems to be fucking up everything he touches.
Go back under your bridge, troll.
"Iran also knows its expansinist desires are over..."
What expansionist desires? I don't recall the Iranian president talking about a desire to expand the borders or territory of Iran. Can you back that up with specifics?
"...there will be many craters throughout the country should they launch a nuke at Israel or some other country in range."
Don't know if you heard, but: THEY...DON'T...HAVE...ANY...NUCLEAR...WEAPONS!
Kind of hard to launch something you don't have, isn't it?
I know it sucks to actually have to back up your talking points- I mean- arguments with facts. But they tend to hold up better when you do.
Well, now they know how the rest of us feel!
I'm sick and tired of the worshipful attitude given McCain. I am in no way critical of his service to our nation in the military, nor what he endured as a POW. However, the media and fellow politicians are going out of their way to ensure that no tough questions are asked of him, especially in regard to foreign policy, for which he appears untouchable.
This is ridiculous, and more to the point, dangerous. This man (if elected) would be the leader of our nation. And, as George W. Bush loves to point out as often as possible, the commander in chief of our military forces. If this blunder is indicative of his true foreign policy expertise, it has the potential to be catastrophic.
The media needs to stop handling this man with kid gloves. The decisions he could make as president would put lives at stake.
That a brutally opressive Communist regime would also be cruel to animals.
Mind boggling.
I wish that there was a way we could boycott these olympics in light of China's atrocious human rights abuses, murder and occupation in Tibet, as well as these animal abuses.
But then again, with as much of our debt that they hold, and the profits Wal Mart will make on lead based Olympic merchandise- let the games begin.
Would also have been a fitting title for this article.
I hold no support for groups such as ELF, but this article is a perfect example of how any average citizen can be caught up in the excessive overreaction of government officials in the wake of 9-11.
"It has a chilling effect on free speech," says Guild director Boghosian, "and that's where the real damage to the Constitution is happening."
Exactly. The loss of our civil liberties happened when the people in charge became frightened bed pissers after 9-11 and stripped us of our rights, using "patriotism" and "protection" as a cudgel to beat an entire nation of citizens into submission. Well, it worked. And the terrorists won that round.
"No one died when Clinton lied."
Even in the heady Ken Starr days, most people I spoke to believed that the marital indiscretions of Bill Clinton were only of relevance to Bill and Hillary. Yet, we nearly impeached him over it.
Contrast that with this administration, and the American people now clearly see that it's much worse to lie and cheat this nation into a war we didn't need- a war costing us billions of dollars a month and the loss of thousands of lives. A blow job almost seems innocuous in contrast.
Another great point, as Gary mentioned: "Much of this reflects the inevitable gap between the traditional media's condemnation of illegal or stigmatized acts and the attitudes -- and practices -- of ordinary Americans. The most obvious example is marijuana use..."
The American people are waking up to the fact that the "War on Drugs" is a hugely wasteful scam when considering marijuana. Billions of dollars are wasted every year, along with draconian sentencing laws for the most marginal drug "crimes"- and still, marijuana is easily obtained. The shrillness of the media and politicians on this matter isn't going to erase the obvious and hypocritical discord any citizen with a pulse can detect.
Confidence is attractive. True confidence, and being at ease with yourself. It's like dating. When you're at ease and comfortable with yourself your true character emerges, you are confident.
That is one aspect about Obama that is appealing- he is at ease with himself but confident at the same time. The other candidates seem very constrained by the roles and opinions that they are "expected" to have, and therefore appear to over calculate the effects of every statement and action. It's a turn off for voters, and it will show come November.
