We've been held hostage to his b.s. rantings for years now, and his word is treated like gospel. He's full of crap and a complete hypocrite, with so many examples that I could write a book about it if Al Franken hadn't already done so.
I want a Democrat in the White House badly, because this country has a lot of things that need fixing. But it would also be great to deal this type of conservative a thundering defeat in the hopes they'd actually back off a bit and lose their relevance.
One can hope.
Until the day when gay and lesbian relationships are accorded the FULL equality under the law as afforded to any heterosexual couple, there is no true equality.
You can call it "civil union" or "domestic partnership" or what have you, but until the laws are all equal and the rights are all equal, it's a form of partnership segregation.
And to counter the main premise of the article - just because the option is there doesn't mean everyone will rush to take part. Based on that, I would expect Salon to do a story questioning why there are so many unwed heterosexual couples in America.
These revelations are disgusting and even more revolting is the fact that potentially infected meat was already sent to schoolchildren and consumed by them. And the actions of the plant workers made me shudder. What kind of screwed up person does it take to shock an animal or stab it in the eye?
I already don't eat beef because I don't want to get Mad Cow Disease. (I know, I know the government says our beef is safe. But they said the same thing about DDT and Thalidomide).
In my opinion, we as a society consume way too much meat. Everything is best in moderation. Do we really need to have meat at every meal?
Me too.
And his name is Barack Obama.
"30-day sex challenge by a Tampa, Fla., church"
Wait! No! I thought the purpose of marriage was just for procreation!
But on a serious note: To have a reasoned article on Salon about gay marriage and then one reveling in the "pornographic" nature of straight marriage smacks mightily of Heterosexism and is pretty hypocritical.
That was a fantastic letter, and spot on. Thank you.
So now we have the (typical) empty air article from the Right about how Obama "might" not be patriotic enough "if" they decide to question him on it.
Yet, no flap about McCain's statement yesterday about how he hopes Fidel Castro will die soon. Or, as the Maverick put it, "I hope he meets Karl Marx real soon."
I'm no fan of Castro, but for a presidential candidate to spray such childish venom only reinforces the "angry old man" view of him that most people rightly have.
And as a side note, I'd like to extend a big old fashioned slap upside the head to Ralph Nader for starting up his big ego vote sucking campaign. Ralph, do us all a favor and please go the F$%* away!
For a religious leader to allow concessions of a society for Sharia law is not only absurd, it's insane.
I'm sick and fucking tired of fundamentalist whacko's being treated with kid gloves because they have a "different religious viewpoint".
The PC nature of multiculturalism hits a brick wall in my book when people start using the weaknesses of that stance to exploit a society and impose severe and violent interpretations of religious law.
Why the Archbishop is allowing the possibility of Sharia- why Britain herself is entertaining this-is beyond me. Remember the London train and bus bombings? These people aren't interested in concessions and soft rhetoric and playing nice.
McCain and Obama as Riggs and Murtaugh from Leathal Weapon.
Although, in this case, I think it's Riggs who's "getting too old for this shit."
Then rambled on at the podium about how we need "breathing room", or something, and then turned it over to McCain.
This is yet another example of "Serious" politicians and their associates getting a free pass from "Serious" journalists like the party hack Russert.
There needs to be a way to not only confront people like McCain with the far out opinions of their endorsers, but also to confront "journalists" like Tim Russert with their open political hackery. Nothing is more depressing than seeing Tim Russert's opinion given so much weight when he is so blatant in his lapdog status. Dick Cheney goes on Meet the Press and Russert spends the entire time nuzzling at his crotch.
Not to me. The bland formica uniformity of Starbucks is about as appealing as the waiting room of a dentist's office.
That's one thing (of many) that independant coffee houses have over the mammoth from Seattle. In an independant place I can actually go and read a book for a while without getting stared down by one of the million yuppies itching for my seat.
At least this article is honest about the fact that America is now a corporation instead of a democracy.
After the disaster of the past seven years, all I can say is...
That would be awesome!
My thoughts exactly.
I for one am tired of dynasties and brand names. It's been 20 years since we've had a president who wasn't named Bush or Clinton.
Time for a change. The air's getting stale in here.
As if Bush has worried over that for even a single moment.
I was watching McCain's speech last night, and I cannot honestly imagine how anyone can get excited over this guy. Truly, he has served his country, but at this point, and at his age there is nothing new in the offing. Just four more years of George W. Bush's bungled and failed policies.
