DINO Reid
[Read the article: Harry Reid's FISA games]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I just wrote a detailed letter to Senator Reid via his website and will be mailing a hardcopy to his D.C. office today.
I think that the vote of no confidence is an excellent idea. I also think that the people of Nevada need to vote him out of office the next chance that happens.
I am honestly at a loss at how ineffective our Congressional representatives are. We gave them a mandate in the election of 2006 and they either sit on their thumbs or act like Bush's lapdogs. I'll bet that Barney stands up to Bush more than the Democratic representatives ever have.
It's very clear to me now that the members of Congress no longer represent the American people. They have betrayed us at every turn by aiding and abetting the trampling of our rights and frustrating our progress as citizens. The poster who wrote about Molly Ivins is absolutely right. What in the hell ARE they afraid of? The vast majority of the citizens of this nation support progressive concepts in regard to the economy, health care, and getting out of Iraq.
What will it take for these people to DO THEIR JOBS?!

These Blackwater thugs are the new Gestapo
[Read the article: Blackwater in Baghdad: "It was a horror movie"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]We have no moral standing in the world any longer. We will never again have any moral standing until these monsters are brought to full justice under the law.

"Let us hope that this administration applies these powers with tremendous restraint.."
[Read the article: Inside the CIA's notorious "black sites"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]They wont and you know it.
They've already proven that they wont. This is just a test to see what they can get away with. As time progresses, they will try incrementally to get away with more.
Further, this administration is not capable of restraint. Haven't their actions these past seven years proven that to you?
No, what needs to be done is for the Militairy Commissions Act to be repealed. And then replaced with a piece of lawful and reasonable- but effective- legislation that doesn't seem as though it was hand written by the ghost of Josef Stalin.

It's Amazing
[Read the article: Architecture of detention]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]How such banal diagrams could make my blood run so cold.

Ron Wyden
[Read the article: Harry Reid -- compare and contrast]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]See Harry?
THAT'S a spine.

I'm impressed by responsible action
[Read the article: Anatomy and significance of Monday's FISA victory]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]And yesterday Chris Dodd had that in spades. That IS what leadership is about. It's about doing the right thing by upholding your oath to the Constitution and the American people. It's about standing up to the freewheeling crony government we've had these past few years.
Harry Reid's actions and statements in light of these developments truly show how slimy he is. He's supposed to be the leader of the Democratic majority, but we've had to fight him as if he were a Republican. It's also equally interesting to note that the two "star, front-runners" - Clinton and Obama- didn't take a stand as Dodd did. It makes me wonder whether their priorities are to the rule of law in America, or if they're more interested in winning the American high school popularity contest.
I'm deeply impressed by Dodd's actions. This is a President you would want to have. Someone who is principled, has a respect and understanding of the law, and importantly, someone who actually listens to their constituents. Our current President doesn't give a damn what the American people think, or what is best for the majority of us. Wouldn't it be refreshing if we had a president who did?

We talk about oil addiction as if it's an abstraction
[Read the article: The fuel on the hill]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]as though its other Americans who are using all of this oil. The fact is, we all are. And until we make serious changes in our personal habits, as well as societal changes, it will continue. This means not buying 17 million new cars every year. This means getting off of our national "my car is my identity" fixation, especially with heavy trucks and SUV's.
We need to get over our personal egos a bit. Not to mention our out of control consumption. We are the retail and consumer equivalents of crack addicts. This time of year certainly throws it into perspective for me when I'm out and see the mad rush for products, the vast majority of which are- hello- petroleum based! Include all of the excessive packaging, paper, etc that ends up in landfills and you'll get nauseous about the idea of extrapolating that to a population of 300 million.
There's an old saying from the beginning of the environmental movement- "Think Globally, Act Locally." The problem is, we only Think Locally (focusing only on ourselves and our immediate evironment) and fail to realize that our Actions have a Global impact.
Sustainability of the human race requires a commitment to true green energy- solar, wind and geothermal. As well as electric cars.
Our lifestyles of rampant consumerism and greed are truly unsustainable and need to be eliminated.
Turn out the lights before you leave the room.

What else can they run on but fear?
[Read the article: GOP to voters: Be afraid, be very afraid]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The economy? Nope.
Health care? Sorry.
Upholding Civil Liberties? Don't make me laugh.
Education? Got left behind.
But then again, there's always the specter of terrorism, the vague fear of "the others" and irrational and unlikely doomsday scenarios.
I'd be truly interested to know how effective these kinds of ads really are. It seems like a very tired and obvious way of presenting yourself as a candidate. What's next? Skynet AlQueda is going to send a Terminator from the future to attack us?

He's old, He's past his prime, and at this point just a partisan shill
[Read the article: Will fate grant John McCain a do-over?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]With all that has happened in the last eight years, do we really need a man "entering his eighth decade" to be leading our nation into the 21st century?
A man who has been a rubber stamp for this atrocious and out of control administration?
Someone who would make such a ridiculously inaccurate statement such as, "If we did what the Democrats wanted to do six months ago, al-Qaida would have taken over in Iraq."?
That is the last person we need in the White House right now.
McCain's in la-la land. Where "victory" (whatever that means) in Iraq is "just around the corner" and walking through a Baghdad market is like taking "a walk in a farmer's market" on a pretty summer day.
