  • Edwards for President

[Read the article: John Edwards live]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I've been impressed with John Edwards since I saw him speak at a campaign stop in Denver during the 2004 elections. He impressed me then, as he impresses me still, as a genuine individual with the best interests of the American Citizenry in mind and at heart.

It is my sincere hope that he will secure the nomination for President. Finally we have a candidate talking straight with us and inspiring us with the idea that we can indeed improve this nation and the lives of its citizens.

Most Presidential races are defined by money, money and more money. It's not necessarily which candidate has the best ideas or the best ways to carry them out, but who has cash, star appeal and name recognition. It lowers the race to be elected to the greatest office in the land into nothing more than a high school popularity contest.

And what to say of most Presidential candidates? The "front runners" of this race on both sides (with the exception of Edwards and Obama) seem to be nothing more than career politicians who will give any empty phrase or platitude to keep office. No wonder nothing gets done in this country. We keep electing the empty suit with meek, unispiring ideas.

I truly hope that John Edwards will become President. And I keep his wife Elizabeth in my prayers.

  • #2!

For your own sake please, pick #2!

It will certainly be difficult at first, but take it from me, being stuck in a town like that only kills you slowly. I'm so glad I moved away from the tiny town I was in, now I'm in New York and things have really opened up. It took a LOT of hard work, working two jobs and saving everything I earned, but I don't regret a minute of it and have been happier than I've ever been!

It will be hard to break off your relationship with your fiancee, but it's very obvious that he has little or no interest in living the kind of life that you are obviously dying to live. And why should you compromise that? You shouldn't! You sound like a very intelligent, confident woman who is very sure of who she is and what she wants out of life. And I see no reason whatsoever why you shouldn't be able to have all of it. In fact, I'm certain that you will have it if you get out of there. If you are also interested in love and family, you will meet a man who will share your interests by pursuing what you are passionate about.

I know what it's like to live in a small town, where the local WalMart is the center of the social scene, and the rest of the universe ceases to exist at the town line. Once you get out of there, you'll see that there is a whole other world out there that is just waiting for you to discover it. Your only regret might be not having done it sooner.

Best of luck and God bless.

  • TV hypnosis rays

"Historians in 100 years are going to think there was LSD in the water or secret mind hypnosis rays were emanating from the TVs."

There ARE mind hypnosis rays eminating from TV's - it's called Fox News.

  • I'm with futhark and ann1960 on this one

[Read the article: Memo to Bill O'Reilly: More immigrants equals less crime]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Our nation's resources (and really our global resources) are stressed to the breaking point as it is. My problem with immigration (and the population explosion of those who are already citizens) is a logistical one.

The ideology that suggested that there's plenty of room and resources to go around worked fine in the days of Manifest Destiny, but we have a population of 300 million people in this nation who are resource hogs the likes of which this planet has never seen. Why throw gas on the fire of global warming, resource depletion and outright environment destruction by adding millions more to the process?

Blaming illegals is just an excuse for those of us already in America not to have to take responsibility for the damaging lifestyles we lead. It's fine for "us" to gorge ourselves on fast food, drive SUV's and pave over our last open spaces, but God forbid anyone from another country should come here and join in.

  • Pathetic!

[Read the article: Make room for Daddy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Only the most inept and fearful of individuals fall over swooning for this cardboard cutout bluster. It's pathetic to me that political discourse in this nation- especially by the right- boils down to "My dad can beat up your dad" and which politician seems "toughest"

    Are you kidding me?

John Wayne may have been a fine action movie star in his day, but there's no way I would want to put him in to the Oval Office. Too often politicians, and the American public at large, equate the bullshit myth of "alpha male toughness" with competency in a political office- an office that requires great intelligence, nuance, compromise and integrity- attribuites that none of these current candidates, nor our current President possess.

Equally sad is the inability of the American public to see past the hallowed presentation of "Saint Ronnie" and remember a presidency rife with corruption, economic downturn and international gaffes.

    Sad. Sad. Sad.

    And for shame.
