I'd love to. Really. But the reason Bush's numbers are so low is not because the slumbering mass of America has awoken from their post-9/11 intellectual paralysis and made the simple connections required to see Bush as the utter failure that he is. The reason his numbers are low is because Americans don't like high gas prices. That's all. It's just a matter of inconvenience to a spoiled population. I will even venture to say that Bush's drop after Hurricane Katrina was not because of his gross indifference to human suffering and his inability to provide any kind of leadership. It's because gas prices went up after the storm.
Some may call me an America-hater, but I'm merely an American realist. I did not hear Gitmo and PNAC and PSA and Plame and Abu Ghraib on the lips of the ordinary Americans I deal with every day. I only heard a minority of politically astute people complaining about these injustices, and mostly on political blogs. But every day I hear people complaining about gas prices and about Bush not rescuing them.
Boo fucking hoo. I'm glad anything takes the sociopath in the White House down a peg or two, but I couldn't care less about gas prices. We've had it easy and we are a wasteful people who have refused to change our ways. Our people should have been badgering Congress and the White House for sane energy regulations for years. We didn't. It's our fault, not Bush's. The low opinion polls are not indicative of a smartening America, it's just a sign of how selfish we are. Instead of demanding justice all these years, we only demand low gas prices... or else....
Nobody who's that angry at winding up in middle age as a Winnebago salesman who has to make a promotional video on a hot day can be all that bad.
I bet he took Ambien the night before.
I wonder if the article was written before John Gibson's crazy-ass plea for white people to procreate was passed around the internet. It would have been great to include that in the discussion of nativist cycles. Gibson tells his audience to make babies because in 25 years, Hispanics will be a majority of the population. "Do your duty and make more babies. Don't let Hispanics carry the load."
That is straight out of the 1930s.
Murtha's gonna get cooked over this. I hope he has an eyewitness who was there who will actually speak about it in public. Because it's really not worth the fight to make these accusations and not back them up with photos or corraborating evidence from an eyewitness.
I'm tired of seeing people who speak out like this go down in flames because they cite "sources" who never materialize. Goddamn it, if this is true, the people who were there who told Murtha and Time Magazine about it better step up to the plate and speak out. It's about time these "sources" acted like men instead of hiding in the shadows, telling people about what they saw and then staying hidden when the rightwing blasts the messengers as treasonous liars.
If Murtha can't fully back this up with solid evidence, then he hasn't learned anything about politics in the past 6 years and he's given the GOP a gift. They love to paint Democrats as America-haters and they'll use Murtha as their poster boy unless he can offer some proof. Don't get me wrong, I PRAY he can offer some proof. Because I am against the war, and have been since September 11, 2002, when George W Bush used the occasion of the first anniversary of the attack on the US as an excuse to make warmongering sounds against Iraq. I remember being in a hotel watching TV and getting a cold rush as he spoke, because I suddenly knew he was going to use the deaths of my fellow citizens as a political excuse to make war on a bunch of people who did nothing to us. But then I thought "Americans won't let this happen. They're not that stupid."
God....

1.) Bush cut funding for nearly 10,000 border patrol agents three months ago.
2.) He poses at the border in a dune buggy the day someone is shot and killed by federal agents.
He's a decider, all right. Making all the wrong decisions, including shoot to kill a person who was heading back to Mexico.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 : The law signed by President Bush less than two months ago to add thousands of border patrol agents along the U.S.-Mexico border has crashed into the reality of Bush's austere federal budget proposal, officials said Tuesday.
Officially approved by Bush on Dec. 17 after extensive bickering in Congress, the National Intelligence Reform Act included the requirement to add 10,000 border patrol agents in the five years beginning with 2006. Roughly 80 percent of the agents were to patrol the southern U.S. border from Texas to California, along which thousands of people cross into the United States illegally every year.
But Bush's proposed 2006 budget, revealed Monday, funds only 210 new border agents.
