You see no reason?

You don't see destroying the Taliban as a reason to stay? Isn't leaving the country in rubble and letting them take over Afghanistan like we did in the late eighties what started this whole mess in the first place?

It sucks to the nth degree that we're still there. But that is because of Bush's overwhelming incompetence. He should have been able to complete this mission four years ago at least. But he didn't, and as untenable as the situation is for Obama, I still believe leaving would be a terrible mistake. No matter how much Bush fucked up, it doesn't mean we can afford to leave it in such a mess again. We at least have to stay to stabilize the country. Because we're the ones who have created all the chaos. It's our responsibility to finish what we started and wipe out the Taliban and whatver Al Quieda is left there. As Howard Dean said in 2004 'you break it, you buy it'.

@doc5467

Yeah, Vietnam never attacked us, Gulf of Tonkin aside. Vietnam did not shelter a terrorist group that did attack us, not to mention give the said terrorist group's plans their blessing. And after we left Vietnam, and the Viet Cong took over, they did not give support and aide to terrorist intent on attacking this nation. All of which the Taliban, in fact, did, and will do if we leave now.

Iraq is a fair comparison to Vietnam. Afghanistan is not.

Look, I hate that this war is still going on. It should have been over with a long time ago. But it isn't because Bush and co. screwed it up with the torture, mercernary forces and unclear mission, etc. And the country is an utter mess, in so many ways I can't even count them. And a lot if not most of that is our fault.

But that does not mean that we can leave a mess in that country again. As much as it would have been nice if Bush and co. had learned the lesson of Vietnam, it would be nice if the left would learn the lesson of this nation's last dealing with Afghanistan twenty five years ago.

My real concern about Beck

Never mind Beck and his ghost writer. I think there is a far more upsetting issue about the man that was not addressed at all. Did Glen Beck rape and murder a girl in 1990? I honestly don't believe that Glen Beck raped and murdered a girl in 1990, but there is a lot of buzz on the internet saying that Glen Beck raped and murdered a girl in 1990. And you have to find it just a little bit curious that he has not said anything at all about the claims that Glen Beck raped and murdered a girl in 1990. He has to be aware of the claims that Glen Beck raped and murdered a girl in 1990, that are out there, yet he hasn't once denied that Glen Beck raped and murdered a girl in 1990.

Does he address in this book the accusation that Glen Beck raped and murdered a girl in 1990? Anything at all?

I find it very upsetting that Glen Beck has yet to say anything about whether Glen Beck raped and murdered a girl in 1990. His silence is worrying. It would be so easy for him to just deny that Glen Beck raped and murdered a girl in 1990, yet he has not. Not a word denying Glen Beck raped and murdered a girl in 1990. If it isn't true that Glen Beck raped and murdered a girl in 1990, does his silence mean that he is hiding something else, perhaps a deep secret that is worse than Glen Beck raped and murdered a girl in 1990?

An idea

Each state holds a referendum, on whether they wish to stay in the union or secede. While it's unlikely even Texas would get a majority, that would not be the point. What would be the point is this:

The two states that have the highest percentage of pro secession voters are promptly thrown out of the union. They can join together if they wish, if they are neighbors, or they can become their own independent nations in North America. Once that is set up, all these ignorant hicks can all move there and get the fuck out of our country. See how they like living in the third world without all the tax revenue from us liberals subsidizing their poor sorry asses anymore.

Another idea is that we really go full bore with space exploration, develop advanced terraforming techniques, and shoot these shitheads off to Mars. Kind of like what England did with the Pilgrims. Except without the wiping out the native population part because there are no Martians.

Thoughts?

Carter suggests Radical right is racist. And in other breaking news...

The sun rose this morning.

Seriously folks. As I much as I appreciate Carter saying it, who didn't realize this already? Have you seen the photos from this weekend? You couldn't get more white from a Minnesota blizzard. Finding the face of a minority in those crowds is like the hardest Where's Waldo puzzle ever created.

Questioning his citizenship. What a load of crap. How is it people don't say every single time its brought up that this is racist? You think a single of these birther bigots would bat an eye if was a freckled redhead named Barry O'Brian, with an accent was straight out of Galway?

So thank you Jimmy Carter, for stating the obvious that nobody else had the nuts to state. Like the man in the meeting who finally asks who farted. Can we please now stop trying to be nice to these bigots and just call them for what they are now?
