@jebdlmm

Well I applaud you on your fine choice of a spouse. Would that we all could be that lucky.

I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but the fine mind of your wife has nothing to do with her being from Europe, she has a fine mind because, well, she has a fine mind. If she was born in Kentucky, or New Mexico, or anywhere else, she would still be intelligent; the only real difference would probably be her accent.

I spent two semesters in college on exchange in England. While that's not a huge amount of one's life, it is something. And I can tell you from first hand experience, white trash is not exclusive to America. I met just as many dumb or ignorant people in the UK as I do here in Boston. Their education is admittedly more comprehensive, much to the continuing embarrassment of our country, but just because someone reads Chaucer and can quote him verbatim doesn't mean they understood a single word of his writing. Actual smart people don't need to quote everyone under the sun to express their ideas. The smart people they often steal from didn't.

And as far as other reasons why Hillary supporters could decide to vote for McCain over Obama, well, if you can think of another reason how someone can support a polar opposite of their own core beliefs over a man who champions them, then let's hear it.

@maureen

I have read a lot of your posts today, as well as many of your posts a while back before I took a break from here and elsewhere to do real world things. I am at least smart enough to follow most of your rambling, mostly off topic, sometimes even nonsensical posts. I even spot most of your plagarising of modernist and classical literature, although perhaps not all of it.

It has been my experience that somebody that name drops or riffs actual intellectuals as much as you do (Samantha Power? Really? How did she get into this?) is either-

a) desperately trying to disguise the fact that they really aren't anywhere close to as smart as they want people to think they are, or-

b) Even more stupid than that because they don't know the difference between what you do and actual intelligent thought.

Hence, you are the very definition of a pseudo-intellectual. Look up the word in the dictionary and I bet there's a picture of you.

As far the the man hating part, well, that probably was a little bit of a guess. You see, perhaps I am a little presumptious, but any woman I come across these days now who is still hanging onto Hillary and hasn't gotten over her losing to Obama is one of either two things:

1) a man hater who just can't accept that their goddess lost to a mere mortal man.

2) a racist who can't believe their shiny white girl lost to the black man.

I'm sorry there's not really anything other reason I can see why some people have a trouble supporting a candidate with many if not all of the same positions as their gal, especially on women's issues. Especially considering the anti-choice, and gay rights, domestic violence pooh-poohing candidate that many are all threatening to vote for instead.

So I'm sorry Maureen, I was giving you the benefit of the doubt, and assuming that you were not a bigot, just a man hater. Neither are good, but one is clearly worse than the other.

Oh, and by the way, just because you are married doesn't mean that you are not a gender-centric man-hater. Some of the biggest misogynists I have met were happily married or had very healthy dating lives.

It's not just about the homes

If it was just about the homes, it might go nowhere, but it isn't. It's part of a building narrative against McCain of being out of touch. I mean, this is a guy who probably has not spent a single day in his life below the upper middle class at best. The homes is just a note in the song. Just as the $5 million comment. And the $500 loafers, the private plane, the dumping his first wife to get himself rich wife worth $100 million, etc.

And yes, ultimately being rich is not a bad thing; many of our best Presidents were rich. Both Roosevelts, for example. But McCain opened the door wide for this by trying to portray the self made Obama as some kind of rich and privelaged elitist, when he himself fits that tab far more accurately.

If this is the only tack they take against McCain, then its a problem, because by itself its not enough. Opening up fronts on his record of incredibly poor judgement on recent foreign policy (specifically against Al-Queda), his all talk no action, or even contradictory action (specifically on vets benefits), shallow gimmick- like policies, to just name a few, will have to opened up as well.

And Obama should really cut out the disclaimer he always puts on his attacks complimenting McCain before he makes criticisms. Its commendable that he takes the effort to be respectful, but enough already. You've made the point.

Well...

The best thing you can say about Maureen is thank God there is at least one pretentious, pseudo-intellectual man hating blow hard that can't vote in the U.S.
