"No, You Can't!"

Disgraceful, but revealing. Bond isn't the only erstwhile Civil Rights leader to accrue power by delivering "the black vote" for white candidates. Failing to do that this year, they've attacked the black candidate bitterly and now openly seek to cheat on the white candidate's behalf, even though polls consistently show Obama beating McCain, but show Clinton struggling or losing. Bond, et al., witnessed Jim Crow in action. Who knew they were taking notes?

If the party reverses its own rules in order to deliver the nomination for Clinton, that's the end of my support for the party. That, plus a "Democrat-controlled" Congress that gives Bush everything he desires, would simply be too much to overlook.

Move Over, Don Siegelman!

No doubt the Rove Justice Department deeply regrets having to destroy another Democratic governor. How fortunate that there aren't any crooked Republican governors!

Beyond the Law

George Bush thinks it's a sign of progress towards becoming a sovereign nation that officials will take action against "elements" who believe they're above the law. Mmm-hmmm....

Focus

It's shocking how many (presumably) intelligent people think Alabama is some kind of exceptional cultural case and will pile on at the slightest hint of an invitation. Educate yourselves, folks, and stop taking your historical/cultural/political cues from lowest-common-denominator pop culture. As for blaming Alabama for Bush 2000, consider that 42 percent of Alabama voters chose Al Gore in 2000. That percentage beats the percentages for Gore in the following states:

Alaska

Idaho

Kansas

Kentucky

Montana

Nebraska

North Dakota

South Carolina

South Dakota

Texas

Utah

Wyoming

The supposedly liberal neo-secessionists have a long list to get through before they write off the progressive voters of my home state. Also, we tied Colorado and Mississippi and came in just short of the percentage for Gore in New Hampshire, Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin. Conceding (with prejudice) all of these states seems like a less than winning strategy.

Let's keep our eyes on the Republican target, shall we, and not confirm every negative stereotype about sneering liberal elitists?

A Taste of GOP Medicine For McCain

You'd think he got enough in 2000, but if he wants to play like Rove....

"Just like draft-dodgers George Bush and Dick Cheney, John McCain questions Barack Obama's patriotism. But John McCain secretly gave U.S. military intelligence to our enemies and signed a document condemning the U.S. military. If John McCain thinks he can cover that stain with a lapel pin he's dead wrong--wrong about Barack Obama and wrong for America."

See, that's how you do the Rove thing. Are we willing to do it?

Enough!

I would have voted for Clinton in Nov. had she been the (fairly) chosen nominee. But her disgraceful dishonesty about Florida and Michigan is just too much to bear. We've suffered through almost eight years of public officials who believe they're above the law and that rules are for suckers. ENOUGH!

Real Feminists™

Real Feminists™ (a.k.a, Clinton supporters) tell us Clinton is the only viable female candidate for president for at least another generation.

I haven't heard even the most unabashed misogynist so thoroughly dismiss the thousands of other female public servants waiting in the wings.

Just this morning NPR quoted one of these Clinton cronies vowing, like so many others of her ilk, to vote for John McCain. Some things are more important than short term political goals, she said. Yes, folks, the Clinton camp's new, improved strategy to promote the interests of women is to pack the Executive Branch and Supreme Court with right-wing activist old white men.

And they wonder why so many "misogynist" young women are swimming hard to escape the Second Wave.

18 Million

What happened to those 18 million HRC supporters aching to have a voice? If they're willing to vote for McCain as a show of respect for HRC surely each one can afford to donate $1 to retire her debt. Why tap Obama's war chest?

THAT Jimmy Carter?

The Baptist sunday school teacher? The major force in Habitat for Humanity? The Nobel laureate? The retired U.S. Navy officer? The guy who sent special forces to Iran to rescue hostages and took full responsibility when a sandstorm destroyed the mission? The guy who was beaten by chimp who sold arms to the folks who held the aforementioned hostages and approved the sale of biological weapons components to Saddam Hussein? The guy who told us we needed to conserve energy--maybe put on a sweater instead of crank up the central heating? THAT Jimmy Carter?

Sounds good to me.

Why...?

...would it be a good thing for a generally corrupt and cowardly Democratic congress to have a veto-proof majority if we have a reform-oriented, Democratic Executive Branch? A solid congressional majority, minus quisling Joe Lieberman, sounds pretty good to me.

Nevermind

Make that "filibuster proof"--a good thing.

A Lesson

Maybe one lesson is that we shouldn't rely on beer companies (or any other kind of company) to provide healthcare, civic improvement, educational programming, etc. That's sort of like pinning education funding to casino revenues instead of taxes. Come to think of it, doesn't Missouri do that, too?
