In many cases, infertility is a direct result of a diagnosable medical problem, a dysfunction of the reproductive or endocrinologic system. It is ridiculous to compare IVF to a nose job. A prominent/large/unfortunately shaped nose, in and of itself, is not a medical problem.
I can't even begin to address the lack of understanding and compassion in these comments, but just wanted to link to this information on insurance coverage/premiums:

While I get that this was an attempt at satire, I think it failed. Beyond that, as a mother who struggled through years of infertility and losses before having a child, I can't help but be pained for the many women who want a child but haven't succeeded in having or adopting one yet who will read this essay and feel yet more salt thrown on their wounds. Those who are lucky enough to have become mothers would do well to show some humility for their good fortune on a day that can be excruciating for many.
As much as I hate Sarah Palin for almost everything she stands for, this article and the picture that accompanies it are so egregiously sexist, I'm shocked to see it here. There are so many legitimate issues to write about with her. Why compromise your integrity with this blatantly sexist bullshit?
