Hopefully a new administration and new legislation making it possible for the public to see detailed budgets and spending legislation will open the eyes of the voting public to what is obvious but few recognize.
There are good politicians on both sides of the fence just as there are democrats who subscribe to the unjustifiable support of the biggest corporations in the country. Until we can see who is behind the worst of the big oil and corporate support and giveaways we can't focus on getting rid of the worst of the system's leaders and support those politicians on both sides who are fighting for truly good policies.
At this point very little truly good legislation is passed that doesn't get adulterated and bogged down with unrelated pork riders. Insidious policies that favor huge corporations with inexplicable grants, subsidies, tax credits, and direct funding are the norm and can't be negated by those who try to get enough public support to make a difference.
Every senator and representative we elect is sworn and charged with the responsibility to see to it that the constitution is upheld. It is their job to act on any infringements even if they are from the president. The refusal of the president to comply with senate demands for documented information or personal answers to investigations is a breach of the constitution that is impeachable as a cut and dried incident that doesn't have any gray areas as Bush has been led to believe by his legal council.
If we would simply adhere to the black and white rules as they are spelled out in the constitution and see that our senate and house representatives do their job we would not be having this talk about Blue Dogs because we would be eliminating this aspect of our bad government. If nobody is above the law we need to start policing our government of those who have held themselves as if they are. There is no executive privelege or threat to national security that should be invoked to allow the president or anyone else to operate outside of the law.
We need to start recognizing good government no matter which side of the fence those who are making good sense comes from. Just as Blue Dogs need to be given the boot good republicans need to be recognized and supported.
Starting with the names of every senator and representative that won't do the job they were sworn in to do, UPHOLD THE CONSTITUTION!
It started with simple little deviations such as ignoring and refusing to comply with senate investigations, in the form of refusing to provide documents and to answer questions. Executive privelege does not apply to senate investigations, they are the oversight safety and they are authorized to see anything they want to see and get answers for anything they want to hear.
The simple act of refusing to comply with senate inquiries is a breach of the constitution subject to impeachment. Refusing as president to see that the laws as legally and properly legislated are enforced is a breach subject to impeachment. These are things Bush has done over and over, he refused to comply with legislation enacted specifically to get him to comply with the proper oversight and enforcement of properly enacted laws and statutes and stated he didn't agree with it so he wasn't going to do his job.
Cheney is subject to a very simple impeachment from his easily proved interference with the report provided by the EPA on the levels of carbon dioxide projected and what levels are hazardous to human life. The Bush administration didn't like the medical findings so Cheney asked that the report be retracted and modified by deleting the seven pages on the hazards to human life. When the Chairman David Mason refused he was relieved of his position.
It sends too profound a message to allow the flagrant disregard for the constitution to be unchallenged. This period of time and when the abuses started and were left unchallenged will be studied throughout history. Undoubtedly choosing the point at which to question impeachable offenses becomes harder and harder once blatant infringements are left be. Now there is a multitude of simple to define specific abuses that are so cut and dried it would take any board charged with assessing whether or not the contitution was infringed on one session of yes or no that could only have one finding.
Democrats worry about complex investigations when it doesn't come down to proving lies or anything else but here are the facts, Bush publicly stated he didn't agree with legislation so he wasn't going to do his job of enforcement.
As a superb benefit this would eliminate the insidious pardons and secrecy this administration's actions will undoubtedly be shrouded in with Bush's leaving office.
Whether we like it or not the next administration is going to be enveloped in investigations of monetary and constitutional malfeasance perpetrated by this administration and it needs to be done for many reasons as part of fixing the mess that has been made. We don't need any information that needs to be revealed made any harder to get than it already will be. Out attitude is going to need to be one of brutal inflexibility for prosecuting wrongdoing as severely as is possible to send a message that nobody is above the law in any respect, steal or lie and you will be going to jail.
Democrats need to shut this administration down, it's time to get medieval on this bunch of liars and thiefs and keep the next in line out.
